'07 S550 Keep it OR Sell it?

'07 S550 Keep it OR Sell it?
I currently have 55k mi on my '07. Tranny was just replaced, With engine mounts. And fueling up started to become a nightmare(charcoal filter clogged). Cost of repairs is just absurd. I have always had a MB in my garage. But this one is a money pit. Have $6k in repairs in the last few years. Does this continue or slowly decreases? What are you high mileage guys doing?
Not sure if to keep it or sell it for something else.

55k miles is not very many miles on one of these cars. Did you perform the 40k Transmission service? While you are not specific, $6k over a few years is really not a money pit. Lets say you meant three years. That is $2K/year to keep your S-class performing at its best. Now you need to figure out what vehicle you could get for $2K/year that will be as nice a vehicle as the one you are already driving. The transmission replacement is probably due to the transmission service being skipped. Still, not too shabby. I would keep it, and, maybe look into an extended warranty.

I would keep it ,you have spent some money already to keep this great car on the road now ,so you might as well enjoy it.
Ah and indeed take into account in the near future you need to replace the struts as well, which is good for ~1.5- 2K per wheel at M-B(can be done much cheaper btw).
Yeah driving Sonder-Klasse costs special money.. but for that, you drive in one of the best cars in the world (still).

i concur, that is not really a money pit for this caliber of a vehicle over a 3 year period. if it was a 65, over several years of ownership just maintenance w/o repairs is expected to average approximately 1500 a year.
If you like the car, and not really itching to get something else, i don't think this is a good enough of a reason to get rid of it. perhaps do some upgrades to renew the interest.
Mine is pushing 70K, just did lower control arms and steering rack (thankfully rack was done under warranty, referb part 2400, new 4200 + labor)

I am 2nd. owner of the 117,123rd S550 off the line. Hit the lot in March 2007. I just rolled over 80k miles. I have been warranty naked, as I bought it off auction w/ 55k miles.
Is it a pit? Can't say, as everyone has different values/definitions. Mine is a Designo Launch, AWD. I am relatively happy.
Generally, no one enjoys any expense; human nature. Structurally, the car's been a steel horse (knock on the proverbial wood). My biggest expense has been keeping the options going. Drive Dynamic, Multicontour seats have been a literal pain in the butt. Expense to replace is not a small sum.
I had the obligatory shift plate or whatever it's called go south and about $1100 usd's to replace, at an MB dlr. which cost me and honked me.
I've replaced a lower control arm, brakes/rotors, transmission mounts, engine mounts and similar, but all told it's less than a few thousands (3k?). Add tires, a battery, regular maintenance and expected wear and I am fairly satisfied. I have used a trusted indie, not the stealership for most.
For a rollout, 1st model year edition, I have had reasonably good success. It's in it's sixth year of operation. For all purposes, I am thrilled to drive a genuinely top class car, comfort beyond reason and world class style, that commands respect and hasn't cost me my retirement.
Hard to believe, but MB has not paid me to write this......smile.

I am learning the Hard way that after the 60K mark, the value of our car falls off a cliff. All while the wear parts failures skyrocket!
If you can get out without taking a blood bath, then Run! No relationship should keep you on edge, and it's a shame that this level vehicle keeps us all with our fingers crossed. I feel like I'm in a bad marriage and that I'm always looking over my shoulder for the inevitable. #notworthit

The need to look over the shoulder is something that cannot be measured in dollars but there you have a big difference from the first 60 k to the next one.

My parents have their s550 (which their giving me when they get the 2014 s class) since June 2006 and it has 105000 miles on it and it runs perfectly fine. 6K over a few years is not that much to spend to keep it running good. If you keep up with the oil changes and take care of the car then it should last a long time.
