Expensive seat bladder repair with 2 weeks remaining on extended warranty

First the bladder failed on the driver seat a few weeks ago which resulted in a $1000 repair. A couple of weeks later there was a bladder failure in the passenger seat. This time, it required replacement of the seat cushion which was over $3500 for the cushion alone plus other parts and labor which brought the cost to almost $5000. Dealer had to special order the seat cushion from Germany which had to be custom made since none existed in the color of my seat. It took a month to get the seat.

Total cost for both seats was about $6000 which was the actual amount paid by my third party extended warranty. The passenger seat failed with only two weeks remaining on my extended warranty.

Have others had seat bladder failures? Is this common as the vehicles get to seven years.

Then two weeks after the extended warranty expired, all of the steering wheel switches failed intermittently. This cost me $500 to repair.

Prior to these failures, my car had been trouble free for seven years.

That is just ridiculous. Mercedes should be ashamed to charge that kind of money for this stuff. A the end of the day it is just a mass produced car. It would be different if it was a Bentley where there was actually some craftsmanship involved. With these kind of repair costs expect the W221's to be dirt cheap in no time at all.

I've had less issues with my S classes than my wife and sister in-law with their 3 series. If seats go bad in 750 it will run you the same. no need to go off the deep end here.

OP
Was it MB extended warranty or aftermarket?
The seats are a known issue according to my tech. Also according to my rep no aftermarket warranty won't to touch it with a 10 foot pole. I tried to put in a claim on mine (bought the car at a little over 40K miles, both seats were bad) and rep could not get warranty to cover it. Got 71k on the car now and never bothered looking further in to it.

It was an aftermarket warranty -- "Total Protection Plan" with "Supreme" level of protection and zero deductible. I paid $3700 for it in November 2006 and my prior claims had been less than $200. The total cost of the seat repair of about $6000 was the negotiated cost between the warranty company and the dealer which did include a discount from the full retail cost. The amount was paid directly to the dealer by a credit card.

Take a chill pill, i was simply pointing out my experience and didn't say a word about yours. This is a forum where people can share and discuss. So i'd say i don't necessarily have to keep my words to my self.
I dont have to own a BMW for my self to be able to talk about it. I have 6 BMWs between my immediate, extended family and friends. 3, 5, 7 series and X5. Id say i have enough information.
All BMW will have similar repair costs as comparable class mercedes. if its not seats, it will be something else. They all brake the same and all cost an arm and a leg.
When my wife was having problems with her BMW she said same thing; F@#$% this S!$% im going for a mercedes.
So relax and Have a nice day
