Hi guys, sorry to hear about all of you in the same boat as I. I have a w203 2005 C55 experiencing the same issues with the command HU displaying everything fine with the exception of no audio from anything. From all of your experience would you know or assume that I am probably experiencing the same issue with either a defective AGW or bad connections? The first time it happened was right after I loaded several things in my trunk. After the car sat for about thirty minutes it started working again without adjusting anything. The second time it went out was just today; I was at the car wash scrubbing her down and when i hopped back in there was again no audio but everything else seems fine? Has anyone come to a solution yet? Like I said she's an 05 C55 with command and regular speakers (they don't say Bose or Harman/Kardon)!
My cousin's car w221 the amplifier is water damaged (sure), the amplifier parts number is a2218702889 ... My question are :
- Do I have to buy the exact same parts number to make it works ? or can I buy different parts number ?
- Will it just works if I plug in another new unit without Xentry or SCN ...?

please help - Thanks alots.
Equivalent parts are at least (in the order from the oldest to the latest part):
A2218205189
A2218206689
A2218207689
A2218702889
A2218209089
A2218704689
A2219003402
I did not check if it needs version coding but DAS would be sufficient for that. Probably the target MOST configuration would be useful.
Don't worry too much about the part number on the amplifier. MB part numbering system changes very often. As long as the new amplifier is a model MR1510 you'll be OK. The new amplifier will work without any SCN coding. Simple plug n play.
I've managed to sort mine out - by replacing the amp (Audio Gateway). The new one has a slightly newer model number. The old one is A2218206789, the new one is A2218208789.
After months and months of looking, I finally found a second hand one that is of a reasonable price and from a place with a return policy.
The process of replacement is tricky, as in it's really awkward to pull things in and out. But it's not difficult by any means and can be done by anyone with a bit of DIY experience.
I have attached the PDF instructions in this post.
I did NOT have to reprogram. And as far as I know nobody should need to.
I still think that it's caused by water damage from opening the boot, and having the water running through the groove next to the number plate, along the arm and into the hole, onto the top of the amp.
Hope this thread helps someone with the same problem in the future.
Thanks everyone for the help.
EDIT -
By the way I recently found a repair service on eBay in the Eastern Europe for the Audio Gateway that sounds very promising and is reasonably priced.
I have not used them so I can't comment on how good/bad they are, because I only found them right after I've replaced the amp.
But if I didn't replace the amp I would have given them a go.

Yes i used softelectronic after reading your post - , i sent my amp to them last tuesday and it arrived back yesterday (tuesday) repaired and looking brand new, even came back with a 12 months certificate for the warranty.
There in Bulgaria and have an account with DHL cost in total £290 awesome!
Thanks wywywywy
A very useful thread for me right now, my HK becker BE7021 stopped working last week. Lifting the unit up and unplugging the optic plug, I could see there was no light in the return socket, you can see the led flash 3 times in the end of the optic cable. As I have been a top end audio engineer all my life I opened it up and it appears the fault is in the optic sender. I searched the web to try and find a replacement but no luck.
All the breakers selling these charge near on £1000, Mercedes in the UK want £1250 exchange, so these must the most expensive amp in the world to repair, you can buy the amp from the 220 very cheap secondhand.
I will send mine off to that guy that fixes them, pleased there was a good report, I will let you all know the outcome.
Awesome Information on this thread! I'm unfortunately having this issue right now... Been taking to softelectronic from eBay, I'm glad to hear it worked out with them!. I can buy a refurbished unit for $1000 or I can send mine out for repair and pay $450.... I guess I'll send it out!
You think it's the same or similar procedure to remove the amplifier on the w216? You wouldn't happen to have it would you?

so I sent my amplifier to Softelectronics in Bulgaria and received bad news. I was told the amplifier was "burned" and could not be repaired. I was given the option to pay the shipping to receive my trashed amp back. im now sourcing another one but find the prices for a used unit are pretty high and without a warranty. Does anyone know where I could source on of these things out? Has any one been given the same bad news and been able to fix a burned unit? I mean aren't most electronic components reparable as long as you can find the correct replacement parts?

You have a MB authorized service centre in New Jersey and you sent your amp to a non authorized company in Europe ????

I sent it to Bulgaria thinking it was my best option based on a satisfied customer on this very thread. I didn't realize there was an authorized service center in the states that will repair a faulty amplifier.
That is what your implying isn't it gapcobenz? How does this place differ from any other service center across the country?
Id imagine the repair cost from an authorized Mercedes service center would be unreasonably expensive compared to the alternative.

There are two authorized service centres in Germany, one in USA,another in Australia and ourselves in Africa. By authorized I mean approved by the part manufacturers. There is nothing wrong with trying to save money by using other service centres, but in your case you were unaware of the USA agent.
The authorized service centres are equipped with all the manufacturer equipment needed to fix defective parts. I cannot say the same of other repairers as I don't know their level of expertise in the field.
And no the approved service centres do not charge unreasonable rates.
Call your nearest MB dealer and ask for the details of the USA agent. Maybe they can help you with a good used amplifier.
