COMMAND not functional - no audio but nav works
Has anyone come to a solution yet? Like I said she's an 05 C55 with command and regular speakers (they don't say Bose or Harman/Kardon)!
The error was MOST Open Ring, so the COMAND couldn't talk to any of the modules - AGW, TV, phone, etc.
Possibly a broken fibreoptics cable somewhere?
My cousin's car w221 the amplifier is water damaged (sure), the amplifier parts number is a2218702889 ... My question are :
- Do I have to buy the exact same parts number to make it works ? or can I buy different parts number ?
- Will it just works if I plug in another new unit without Xentry or SCN ...?
please help - Thanks alots.

I did not check if it needs version coding but DAS would be sufficient for that. Probably the target MOST configuration would be useful.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I've managed to sort mine out - by replacing the amp (Audio Gateway). The new one has a slightly newer model number. The old one is A2218206789, the new one is A2218208789.
After months and months of looking, I finally found a second hand one that is of a reasonable price and from a place with a return policy.
The process of replacement is tricky, as in it's really awkward to pull things in and out. But it's not difficult by any means and can be done by anyone with a bit of DIY experience.
I have attached the PDF instructions in this post.
I did NOT have to reprogram. And as far as I know nobody should need to.
I still think that it's caused by water damage from opening the boot, and having the water running through the groove next to the number plate, along the arm and into the hole, onto the top of the amp.
Hope this thread helps someone with the same problem in the future.
Thanks everyone for the help.
EDIT -
By the way I recently found a repair service on eBay in the Eastern Europe for the Audio Gateway that sounds very promising and is reasonably priced.
I have not used them so I can't comment on how good/bad they are, because I only found them right after I've replaced the amp.
But if I didn't replace the amp I would have given them a go.

That is what your implying isn't it gapcobenz? How does this place differ from any other service center across the country?
Id imagine the repair cost from an authorized Mercedes service center would be unreasonably expensive compared to the alternative.

The authorized service centres are equipped with all the manufacturer equipment needed to fix defective parts. I cannot say the same of other repairers as I don't know their level of expertise in the field.
And no the approved service centres do not charge unreasonable rates.
Call your nearest MB dealer and ask for the details of the USA agent. Maybe they can help you with a good used amplifier.
