I was wondering wondering what type of wheels look the best on the S550. Coming from a bimmer, i generally liked the mesh styles but it seems the 5 spoke or straight spokes tend to be the favorite. I'm looking to get a S550 and i have one in mind locally. So, my wheel and car shopping tends to run in parallel. All opinions are greatly appreciated. Pics of S550 with 22 would be greatly appreciated as well
TIA,
TIA,
Good to see you over here player!!! Concave 5 spokes seem to do it justice

Hey buddy, didn't know you frequent the the nerd forums too. Looking at replacing the 7 with a s class. Yup, that seems to be the nporn I've seen with the five spoke.
Actually was looking to do the same! Plans slowed when I found a new house I wanted.

Lorinser Turbines.. mine are 20".
Then Mecextremes like attached in 20 or 22".
For a more oem look: the AMG-ones.
Or Mandrell Wilhems or ..or..

I'm partial to a clean 5 spoke or split 5 spoke. Can't go wrong with Vossens and a bit of a drop. S63 front and rear facelift helps too.

Sadly that is not my car, but I believe Vossen makes those in 22's. They're a sponsor on the forum.Originally Posted by kiddkynetik

I just wanted to say I came from 750 Li and man it's No comparison to the S 550 I'm loving my S
I didn't want chrome so I went with the Vossen VV083 22x9 front 22x10.5 rear with 295/25/22 lowering it soon ..It's Nothing like The S 550 when pulling up to the office .

A little more conservative, factory 5 spoke AMG's on one of the limos at the company I used to work at full time.

The car i'm about to purchase is Flint grey with tan interior. Not sure if that will make a difference or not. Another thing, do a lot of people on the forum go with 2/3pc wheels or single casted/forged wheels? I had a huge headache the last go around with the 3pc wheels. I would always bend them and the seals would always go bad. Thinking this time around i might stick with the single pc wheels. Opinions?

Avant Garde m510 split 5 spoke in 21" is hard as hell. I'll be putting that on when I pick up my s550 this weekend

IMO the style rims will depend on the color combo. It's all preference.
For instance, a white S class I think looks great with some kind of rims with white spokes and chrome lips but on the other white with Pano roof wouldn't look right with white rims. I actually bought an S class after seeing a white on white at the mall thinking that I was going to do the same but ended up not doing so.
I have to say though, silver with silver 5 spoke concave looks sexy but I can't see those on my car.

What do u think about that style?
I like those wheels and I've seen them on a new AMG GL63, but they're a little too busy for the S imo. Originally Posted by Tkachuk

Not a fan of black wheels in general. The tires always look brown or grey by contrast unless they're dressed.

I'm looking for more of a "factory" look but with a sporty side to it. Just bought a W221 and want new wheels.
I have the factory "9-spoke" base wheels and don't like them. But I don't want anything that could potentially look aftermarket on the car.
Problem is the car has brand new 18" tires so I don't want to replace those. I'm going to buy an 18" set of rims and put the tires onto them.
Here is what I have in mind. They're an exact replica of the 19" AMG wheels that come with the sport package. Car is black on black.
Wheels I want to buy:

Question: Will these wheels look weird because they're a sportier look but only 18"? I am perfectly fine with keeping 18" wheels to maintain ride quality, and don't think the original wheels look to small on the car at all. I'm happy with the size.
But will the AMG 18" look be weird?
Wheels are $500 and I have a guy who will swap my tires onto them for cheap. Don't want to buy a set of tires because if this becomes a $1000 project I won't be doing it at all....

If you don't think the current 18" look small then you will be fine with the new one. Now, in 2010 Mercedes tweaked the factory 19" to a more pointed look at the end of the spokes. I think it makes the rim look a little bigger. Does he have that style available?
