Those of you that own a w221.. Do you like the exterior better than the w222?

Parked side by side with a 14 550 at the mall today. It made the 221 look old. Nice charcoal gray exterior. very light cream colored interior. The wheels still looked wrong but that's an easy fix. Otherwise it looked like a 221 got boned by an awesome robot and this was the offspring. In the right config it's a nice car. Put my S63 wheels on it and I'd be a happy man.

2012 vs 2015
I am no photographer. With the help of a very good salesman, I took a few shots for a friend who is shopping and for this thread. My 2012 has P2, AMG add on etc. Great car bone stock. Next to it was the only S550 on the lot and it is a 2015 not a 14. I should have photoed the WS but trust me it said 2015 in big letters. No AMG badging anywhere. Rear shots later tonight. For some reason iPad is letting me post one only. Sorry. Gotta run.

Not yet. The proportions on the nose still look odd and foreign to me. I think overall the 222 looks very corporate and business-like. The 221, especially in the AMG trim, looks like it's pissed off and up to no good. The 222 looks like it wants to do your taxes for you, then get to bed at a reasonable hour.

RR quarter shot
The '12 flares add a lot. The '15 has 20" wheels. Add flares plus lower the car and a lot could change on the '15. I still have trouble with the blunt nose. Pic help please Mike5215 and thanks.

I love my w221/s550 and seeing all of the things that people have done that are amazing and taking the Thug/CEO vehicle and made it their own. Ive seen some people get bashed for ugly stuff they have done (and I often literally "LOL" when I read them) and just pray no one does that to me
I seen a S63 black pull up next to me at a light and it was looking good. Now I think we all love our w221 as it is a car that REPS! no matter where you pull up...If anyone can afford to spend the money on the 222 well Im sure they can make it hot. As for me I will stay on this Forum because I love my 221 and frankly I love the Fenders it looks aggressive and sits pretty. Im going to start a thread about what is your favorite thing about your 221. Im sure there are some features that some of us don't even know we have...For example and don't think I am crazy, I never had SAT radio so I never even attempted to use it. I got in the car the other day and it was playing, I asked my wife did she subscribe to it for me, she said no but I always listen to it....I have had the car 1 yr this month and I just now know I have SAT Radio ...I guess the old owner could still be paying for it lol....Sorry to get off topic...

I love them both! I can easily see me getting the W222 at some point, but, there is nothing about the W222 that is making crave the new one. I think the new one looks fantastic from some angles, but, at the time of this writing, I think the W221 looks great from every angle. I certainly don't think the W222 makes the W221 look "old".

Wait until the 222 looks "normal" to you and then the 221 will look dated. It's inevitable. Just like the 221 eventually made the 220 look dated. Circle of life, man.

I thought the 222 was beautiful until Jason B posted the comparison pics and I spent 10 minutes flipping back and forth. I now agree with folks who say the 222 is bland compared to the 221 and the wheel flares on the 221 add some sexy curves to the car. The photo from Mike5215 is another great comparison how, from the rear, things like the taillights on the 221 make more of a statement and define the car better.
I also think the the way the rear bumper on the 222 meets the body looks weird from the side...I prefer the straight line on the 221 which IMO makes the car look longer.
And don't get me started in the interior...It's not as bad as the new CLA with the screen sort of stuck on the dash like an afterthought but after sitting inside a few 222s that smiley face steering wheel certainly hasn't grown on me.

I always loved the 220, and had a hard time getting used to the 221.
I'm nearly there now, and might get one soon.
The 222 seems easier to like, but the interior is another thing.
Too fussy. I saw a 222 at my dealer recently, and it screamed "221 facelift" to me.
The 222 radiator grille seems disproportionately large, though.

Don't mean to offend any of our female members, (If there are any), or hyper sensitive "males" for that matter... but an S-class with no fender flares are like a Victoria Secrets model with no T&A.. Perfectly fine not to have them, but SO much better if they have them.. I drove passed a W222 & completely thought it was a Hyundai.. MB hit a grand slam with the CLS redesign, but their W222...... not for me..

good thread, I like the 221 better. the rear end and fender arches are much nicer than the 222. The two diamond white's above illustrate this well. The 222 from the rear looks like a CL. My two cents.

There are a few details on the new one I prefer (wide digital dash for example) but it was kind of underwhelming.
It's like a W221 that stopped going to the gym.
And the clown face steering wheel does me in.
WARNING: Once you see it you will never be able to unsee it.

MB could have done better with this car it looks small and the rear is soft. I think the long body version will look better. Just like the Maybach 62 looks better than the 57 . I also prefer the w221 interior to the w222 it looks way over done. The screens are cool that's about it. I would not buy the w222. I have to admit that some w221's look dated when I see them. I think the w221 looks better in black w/AMG. Does anyone remember how they ruined the CLK...same thing here. My wife had a 99' 430 w/amg pkg and I loved it because I like muscle cars. When u take away the muscle you lose.

It's taken me several months to really start to appreciate the 221. I knew I was there when I had it in for service and the dealer had a 220 on the lot. I sat down and thought "Holy crap, this thing looks dated".
As far as the 222's interior, it's pretty nice and it does make the 221's look relatively cheap and unsophisticated. I think they missed the mark with the digital dash. Typically manufacturers will integrate the screen into a normal, ovoid shaped gauge pod. I've never seen anyone celebrate the squareness of a display quite like the 222.

The new 2012 -on SL is simply aweful looking, few years already and still couldn't pick up the "feel".
The new CLS is never seen as fashion statement as the previous one
The rear of the new S no longer looks commanding. And by the time the new C comes out, it would look identical !!!
