2010 S550 depreciation

Hey guys, after immersing myself in this forum these past few months I've finally made the decision to pull the trigger and purchase a 2010 W221 in the fall/winter. My question is, seeing that the W222 is now for sale, is it at all possible for the 2010 W221 to have a significant amount of depreciation? If so how much am I looking at? I would prefer to purchase one for $30,000-$35,000 with decent mileage. Some help would be greatly appreciated.

They will certainly decrease in value - this accelerates as soon as new models are released. Since the W222 has been out a little while now you should see the W221 to continue to decrease, but it may be some time until you see the 2010 model in the price you are looking for. That is the facelift version so 2010+ are going to have a step in price continued to the 2007-2009.

The 12 and 13 got the TT V8 which makes them more desire able. The S holds most of its value for the first 24 months and doesn't really fall off the cliff until 48. $35k - $40k will buy you a CPO 09 or 10 with average miles. Expect to be in the $60k range for a 12.

Thanks for the advice guys, I suppose I'll just wait for spring of next year to make the purchase. I'm assuming the prices will decrease substantially by then.

I would not assume so if i were you. while you will see some depreciation due to the release of the w222, understand that it will level off and sit at a certain level cause of different factors: abundance of older models, supply and demand etc
the 07-09 is basically same as the 010-013 and until those hit rock bottom prices, 010-013 will only go down to a certain level. What i mean is even a one -off 012-013 with extremely high mileage for example will not go lower than a certain amount at a certain time.

You can expect to still find 012s and 013s in the 40-60k range since 010-011s will pretty much be selling in the 35-45k range . you will of course find the one offs that will be priced lower for certain reasons...high mileage, trade in etc

So except if you are looking for a quick one-off deal like that, don't expect depreciation to save you a whole lot. I would figure by next year maybe another 10-15% dip on average on the 012-013s. And it gets harder if you are looking for get fully loaded ones.
My advice is settle for an older model that has all the features you like on the car and enjoy the car. Or spend a little extra and get a newer model now and enjoy the car. Cause by the time you are able to afford the 012-013, the itch for the 014 will start kicking in and the one you were supposedly waiting on will no longer be attractive to you.

All these are subjective though...thats my reasoning when it comes to cars. We are all different. some people always want the new model, some can wait a few years etc,

Good luck with search

I've purchased three used S Class (two 220's and the 2010 221). Generally I'll figure out the budget first and work backward from there, trying to find the cleanest car in that price range. I also will consider some of the less common models like the S400 and S350 in the search since aside from drive train they're essentially the same car. AutoTrader.com lets you set up a very specific search criteria and save it, and they'll automatically send you and email with updated search results as cars that meet your requirements come available.

My 12' was right at $60k loaded with 35k miles. New it had a $121k sticker. If you can I would wait for a 12'. The 4.6 is a rocket launching in s mode. I don't know how a car this heavy can be so fast. I am still in shock.
