Does Telematic Update include Aux feature? Will these accessories work?

Frustrated with not having a way to connect my ipod/iphone to the command without an fm transmitter. Trying to figure out a way around this. Previous owner of my car already has the telematic update done birds eye view , video, traffic all show up.

I want to know if the update includes the availability of the Aux feature and as such if all i need is just an aux cable or iPod interface kit hooked up so i can add a bluetooth stream module. Or does the AUX feature still need to be coded with Star?

Found the following three options on ebay. Will any of these work without the Aux feature if it so happens that the telematic update i have doesn't include the AUX feature. I hate how a $100000 car never came with iPod integration as a added feature.

thanks\

The AUX feature is there before any telematics update but you do need COMAND version coding to activate the menu.

None of your eBay items are good. The simplest one could work if the pins in the socket are compatible. Why not purchase the real cable (or cables, AUX audio and video) from your dealer, pretty cheap spare parts.

The original cables have loose wires with pins that you insert to the original Comand connector housing.

thanks for the clarification.
So, just to be clear...i can get a bluetooth module connected to the AUX once i plug in the aux cables from dealer and activate AUX with STAR tool?

so basically:

1. Buy Aux cables from dealer and plug them into allotted housing behind Comand head unit
2. Code Comand head unit to activate AUX feature
3. Get a bluetooth module like the Musiclink and Visseo i have seem a few members talk about
4. Pair my iPhone to bluetooth module
5. Enjoy music from my iPhone 5s via bluetooth connection

Does this seem like my solution to enjoying music on my iPhone?

Thanks

I got Aux installed in My 2007 S550 for $199

Please search for my post. Last year I got a shop in Costa Mesa, California to install the Aux for me.

He has star software. First he connected his laptop to my car same terminal plug under steering wheel where you connect your OBD II scanner.

He went into the software and just Checked the Box says AUX.

After that he just did the power cycle on head unit and Aux start to show up in the Menu.

Then he removed my head unit (the part that have 6 CD changer/Memory Card) and he connected Aux cable in one of the back connector. It is not simple plug and play. He basically remove from back of the head unit a plug and there were couple empty slot/pins. He added wire from aux cable to this connector and that's it.

Please read my earlier post.

Thanks Hadam,
My mechanic has this STAR tool so adding the AUX should be easy. But Am a little confused when you say "he added pins".i am not sure if what you mean is simply getting the relatively cheap AUX audio and Video cable from the dealer should eliminate the need to add pins to the cable currently in the allotted slot. Or if the current cable behind the unit now can serve as an AUX cable if extra pins are added manually to the connector.

Also, I looked in my glovebox and I see the glovebox light but not hole for the aux cables to come out of. Does this have to be retrofitted? Am I missing something?

FM transmitters are looking more attractive by the second to me if this mod proves abortive...fml

thanks

You said that job ran you about $199? That is not bad, I am looking in to doing this shortly on my 07 S550 as well.

When I said add pins means that existing connector on back of head unit missing 3 pins for aux cable. One for right one for left Audio and one for shield.

The MB OEM aux cable already come with pins attached to the side which will connect to existing connector. The tech just pushed the 3 wires of aux MB OEM cable into right slot of existing connector.

On other side it has female aux cable connection. The tech did drill very small hole in my glove box next to light and mounted female aux side.

It takes about 30 minutes from star enabling aux in head unit to push 3 pins in existing connector behind head unit to drill hole in glove box and installing female aux.

Just pay some one and get it done professionally. My new aux sound very good. I added BT on it and now I can listen via BT.

I guess hadam already clarified the missing pieces. This all would have been much easier for you if you had had the WIS retrofit guide. I should have offered a print, it explains what sort of a cable would be installed and how and where the pins are inserted. Also instructions to install the connector to the glovebox (I placed the connectors, audio and video, to the centre console box instead).

Hello, I'm new to w221 group. I have a MY2006 S550 with rear entertainment system. The car however doesn't come with bluetooth and there is no physical AUX input inside the glovebox nor the armrest. My mechanics had recently activated the AUX in the display menu. However, I noticed the plug and the 3.5mm phone jack cable I bought from eBay doesn't fit with my command (which I believe it's NTG3..?) I believe the only way is to add pins to the command socket.

Can someone advice which pins that the 3

Guess it's NTG3 command

there are 3 sockets but the middle one is not used

the socket inserts into the smaller pin

the 3.5mm jack bought from ebay

there are 3 wires

Aux is already activated

wires should be inserted to?

Thanks a lot.

Mid City Engineering sells a kit that they developed for the older W221's that didn't come with the iPod cable and RCA jack in the glove box. It will allow you to stream music at CD quality via bluetooth, but you won't be able to change songs with the steering wheel controls like you can with later W221's that came with the glovebox aux cables. You'd have to change the songs directly from your phone or other BT enabled device. It would be $300 if I had them do the install in the Chicago area. I'm sure it's less if you just buy the kit and do the install yourself.

Hi Dave,
My S550 however does not have built-in Bluetooth. I think the easiest and cheapest solution for me would be adding 3 wires to the plug. I would like to try it if someone can tell me which pins the wires should go to. Thanks anyway.

From what I understand, the Mid City kit plugs directly into the radio and allows you to stream music via Bluetooth through aux on your radio. It is a powered RCA Jack where you can plug a Bluetooth transponder into it, which also comes with the kit. It is completely separate from your phone BT, which allows you to make calls and download your phone book to the car. That requires the BT puck that plugs in your armrest.

Thanks again Dave. My car does not come with BT but i will check with midcity then. There is a local car stereo shop suggesting me to add a bluetooth system with the micophone and control unit. However, I prefer not seeing additonal wires and control unit so finding the pin diagram may be the best slution for me though.

Any ideas?

Can anyone give an answer to the wire/slot number question? I have the same unit as pictured above and have purchased the aux cable from Mercedes. The cable is made up of two cables, a three with white, brown and clear, and a two which are silver and gold. The plug socket in the back of the head unit has 20 holes with 12 free numbered 1 to 20.

Exclamation

I just spoke to Joe Eyerman from Rocco's Auto in Costa Mesa...

The open pins for AUX Input are 5, 6, and 15, 16. Going to try a direct AUX using this method VS. the iPod integration with Bluetooth streaming which I have both in my possession.

AUX input DOES need to be set to PRESENT using SDS or XENTRY for this method to work.

Hello - Appreciate your write up. Could you detail what each number is for? such as 5 an 6 for sound input, 15? and what you used to connect to comand RCA, Bluetooth?

I'm guessing 5 and 6 are audio L and R channels, yellow might be a ground. Not sure, I got the instructions from a MB installer. You can add bluetooth using a aux BT dongle, if it needs power you may have to run it to your cig lighter or other source.

Hello guys. I have just installed a bluetooth receiver to my AUX port and here are the learned lessons:

- pins 5,6 15 is what i've used, but it seems that the quality was pretty bad, and the volume was low. I know that may happen when you connect the pins incorrectly, therefore I have used pin 6 as ground and 5 and 15 as Left and Right and the quality of sound is now beautiful... and the volume is now normal

- yes, a normal and cheap bluetooth adapter can be used. I've did it like that: I had since long time ago a cheap bluetooth receiver with a jack female connector(5-10€). I have modified a cable to have a male jack which was connected to the BT receiver, and the other side to have 3 female pin connector for NTG(pins 5,6 and 15). I have provided power from cigarette socket via a 5V regulator board(3€).That's it, it just works

- don't buy the cheap aux cables from eBay, they don't work... at least for NTG3(first generation of W221). The cables from eBay have 12 pins, but the NTG 3 white socket has 10 pins only, and I am not even sure if that is for AUX or for something else.

- AUX device cannot be controlled from car commands if you use this way, but it really doesn't bother me. If I would buy the ipod adapter(200-300€ second hand here in Europe) + 100€ the bluetooth adapter then i would have it, but simply doesn't worth for me.

- If you already have the Phone Bluetooth adapter and the phone already works with the car for calls, you can keep it like that. The new bluetooth receiver can be set in Bluetooth settings on the phone like Media Device and no calls will be transmitted to that device, only media content. When you receive a call, the music will be interrupted and the call will be transferred to the car Phone System;
Contrary, if you want your phone to be via bluetooth, then as I have read, iPod adapter(B6 782 42 52) + that expensive bluetooth receiver(Tune2air)

Oke, no cheap stuff from ebay, but what BT module you bought then?
