1st Illuminated star/S550/2010/W221/
First illuminated star installed in a S550 2010 W221 and it was worth the time, effort and research by far. This is my ninth upgrade to the S-CLASS and I only have a few more I'd like to add. Auto start, RennTech and a touch up paint job for some of my driving mistakes.

Great, but where are the pics from 8 feet in front. We need to see the whole picture, seeing the whole front end. I've never seen that grille on a S and I don't think many have. Trying to get the full picture/perspective.

Hey Carid I've done a few upgrades which include, in motion video which allows you to watch movies while traveling by double tapping the back button on the steering wheel, Lorinser roof spoiler and trunk spoiler, 22inch Asanti concaved rims staggered with 305 Pirelli tires in the rear and 295 up front, (2x) 12inch Memphis M5 subs with 1000 watt Memphis amp, 9500ci passport stealth lazer radar defense system, (2x) rear headrest bluetooth DVD/TV's, S550 aftermarket star grille, MB illuminated star

Hey Jason B.... You guys will have to forgive me for the super close up pictures but since I'm unable to take my own pics from being deployed to Afghanistan this is what I'm currently working with. However I wrote the guy at PTAP and ask him to send me pictures of the car front back and side to side with multiple pictures of the grille with the illuminated star from back about 5-10 feet so we can see the entire scope of work. I've also requested a picture of the star lit up at night because nobody wants to see a star lit up during the day. The shop is on the east coast so I'm about 9 1/2 hours ahead of those guys. We should have something pretty to look at this evening... I'll keep you posted.

Thanks carid... I'm still waiting on some more pictures on the illuminated star for the S550 but PTAP was closed yesterday so I'm looking forward to getting more pics today. As for future upgrades I'm looking to paint the hood vents Matte black in addition to the Lorinser Fender vents. The front bumper needs some paint on it as I've steered off into the emergency lane and picked up some of those small granite rocks that chipped the paint a bit. I'm also going to add the ECU mod from RennTech which bumps the S550 up another 24rwhp. Lastly I want to add the auto start which allows you to start the car with the OEM FOB key by holding the panic button. I also think I'm going to put my wheels that came on the car back on because I like the look. I thought about buying a set of AMG wheels to have at the house for road trips seeing how I dont own a set of factory rims and tires but (3x) set of wheels is a bit rediculous plus I have another project I'm bringing to life as well. But either way I'll keep posting pictures as they continue to roll in my way.

Also, I might be able to help you out on that starter. There is also an add-on drone that lets you start it from any smart phone.

Is the add on part# KG20 or is there another add on part? I'm trying to gather as much information as possible before I invest in this upgrade. I've done quite a bit of research and I'm looking for to getting it installed around the end of Feb. The smart phone is absolutely something that I want to incorporate into the smart start. How much is the device and how much are the add-ons? Also do you know how much Mercedes is charging for install?

I asked for more pictures than this in addition to better shots but when your not at home to take charge of the transaction you get what you get SMH.

Thanks Garticus.... I wanted some better shots but I'll have to do it myself when I get home. My friend just added a illuminated star to his 2013 CLS and took a outstanding photo.... check his out....

Fortunately his CLS S550 didn't come with the distronic so there was no problems there. He had his installed by the Benz dealership who will not install if your vehicle comes with distronic.

Yea...... they advise against doing it if you have the distronic feature on your Benz. However you could do a custom job and have the distronic sensor relocated which usually lays directly behind the OEM star on the CLS550. Not something I'd recommend seeing how it would mean tampering with the cars overall functionality.

Denis E55..... I'm not exactly sure how the process and procedure is performed with relocation of the distronic sensor but I know it can be done by high end performance shops like PTAP that do this scope of work all day. In reference to the illuminated star... it can be done by simply purchasing the OEM part for you car which you locate on Keenan store on eBay (certified Benz dealer). If they don't make a star for your vehicle I can tell you which one to purchase that can be fitted to your vehicle. I'm not sure what grille your vehicle currently has but if it's not the star grille you will have to purchase that style grille with the star to install the illuminated Benz logo. All together you are going to be looking @ 1k for everything. The star will run about 4 to 5 hundred bucks depending on whether not you buy from Keenan or Mercedes (both OEM Benz part#). The new grille if you don't already have will run about 3 hundred and the installation for this illuminated star will cost anywhere from 5 to 7 hundred bucks depending on which Benz dealership does it. Benz will not install this part if you have a aftermarket grille or part so if the grille or star is not from Mercedes you can forget about it. Getting the grille installed will run you about 200 which shouldn't be hard to find a shop trust worthy of doing this 10 minute job. I hope this helps with any questions you have.
