Greetings all,
I went to the MBUSA site to look at some more CPO's. Came across this MB dealership called Contemporary Motor Cars and I was comparing various S550's pertaining to their options, etc. I was emailed an Auto iPacket from one of the sales persons at the dealership which seems to give you all the information about the particular car you may be interested in.
Let me know if this is the same information that you would get when obtaining the vehicle history from any other
dealership. If it is, then it's really informative especially when you go down to the MechCheck link. Thank you.

Yeah, that's the external report. The internal report has the same info but the presentation isn't as pretty. You can also get any MB's complete internal repair and maintenance history right from your service advisor presuming you have the VIN and some sort of relationship (since technically they're not supposed to give that to you...it has some limited prior owner personal info in it).
CPO means different things to different dealers. At my home dealer, it means the car delivers very much like new. But I've seen others at other stores like you wouldn't believe. I once drove 200 miles to pick up a 2008 CPO S550 and the condition was terrible. To give you an idea, the leather center console cover had been spray painted...like with Rustoleum or something...rather than replaced because the leather was discolored and worn.
When a good dealer makes a decision to certify a car, it's because it's a nice clean trade to begin with. They pay MB corporate $2,000 to issue the warranty, and they don't have to put a lot more into the car to get it to pass certification.

I've been noticing some of the interiors have been lacking in the cleaniless department. Thanks Mike5215.
most mb cars will have the majority of their dealer visits in carfax. all mb dealers participate in carfax.
this is one for some reason is an exception

Hey Alx. The carfax information is there too! Look down the left side under the Modules. It's the 3rd one down. Thanks.Originally Posted by alx

all mb cars when serviced at mb dealers will incur entries in carfax ie "performed scheduled service. rotated tires. checked computers. aligned vehicle"... etc...
this one has none.
Ok. My oversight. Thanks.

I would be suspicious about the lack of service records in the Carfax. If the car was sereviced at an MB dealer the service records would be there. Possibly the car has been serviced at an independent with no records kept but I'd be supprised MB would CPO the car without service records.
Every thing may be fine but at the very least, the question should be asked.

Carfax is hit or miss. All worked performed on any MB by any dealer is accessible via the dealer network's internal report and can be pulled by the VIN. They may want to redact some personal info on the prior owner since it will be displayed but I've never has a problem getting the report.
In the past, whenever I showed a true interest in purchasing a car the salesman would always provide me with the Carfax and the service history of the car by the VIN just to show all the details of what occurred. I guess it must be the way I talk to them and the serious questions that I ask. And, once they review my credit report then they say..."we can't let him get away!". Thanks to all who have chimed in so far, you are helping me towards getting the right one. Take care!
