Hi, am in a bit of a pickle! I have two sets of new AMG look wheels purchased, both 19" but one set is 8.5j and the other is 9.5j. I also have a set of 4 245/40's ( cheap make called Accelera) tyres to go with the 8.5j and have another set of 4 tyres comprising of 245/45 for the front and 275/40 (Dunlop sport max) for the rear to go with the 9.5j wheels.

I completely realise that in actual fact both set of tyres are completely wrong ( many tyre sizes are not available in India) so my question is can I mount 275/40/19 on the 9.5j wheels for the front AND back?


If anyone is confused please allow me to clarify but do help!

Well, a 275 tire on the FRONT isn't going to work. It's going to rub.

Thanks Jason. I thought as much. I am actually not able to upload images but both the wheels although AMG style are actually quite different or I could have simply used the 8.5j in the front and 9.5j at the rear.

So what's your advice? Just try to find the correct 255/40 front and back and use the 8.5j set?

Yea, or use 8.5 in front, and 9.5 in back with the 255 up front. Is it 4-matic?

No, it's RWD. My only challenge is if the 255 size is not available, I'm stuck!

Unfortunately both wheels designs are different so can't couple the 8.5j and 9.5j at the same time.

Two days ago I'd have said 255/40/19 was then largest size you could use, but I just fitted 265/40/18 on 9.0" wheels to the front of mine, and I haven't found any problems yet. And I've looked hard, and I'm now tempted to go to 275's.

My car's a W220, which is only supposed to fit 245/40's on 8.5x19" wheels, and the W221 seems to take a size larger all round.

So I would give it a go and see, as long as there's no great difference in the wheel offset. On my car, the marginal clearance came from the upper wishbone balljoint, and the inside wall of the tyre was close to the suspension strut itself on full lock and full droop.

The impact on ride, handling and steering really wasn't that great; I think its more down to the make and model of tire, than the size.

I never would have thought it possible until I tried it.

Thanks Nick. I will give it a go being mindful of that half and inch wheel wand 10mm tyre width difference. The tyres are Dunlop so not too hot a make!

Either of your front tire size choices will work
245/45-19
245/40-19

Once your wheels are of the correct offset (stock or close to stock @ ET43)
265/30-19 is about the widest that can possibly fit up front without issues.


As Jason said.......275 will NOT fit on the front.

IM getting a 4matic sometime in the next couple weeks, and i want the 20" Amg sport plus 1 wheels which comes staggered in 8.5 adn 9.5 i think. my question is, will this work on a 4matic without causing long term issues?

Once you get the correct aspect ratio (sidewall size) which would keep the overall diameter, of the front & rear tires, the same (or very close) then there should not be any adverse affects with a 4matic.



On my 4matic and my brothers 09' 4matic we both have (4) same sized rim width and tire sizes.....with the Sports Package.

Have you tried it guys? Or do you know of someone who has?

265's fit on mine with 11-12mm clearance to the suspension upright, and I couldn't get it to rub the arch nomatter what I did with jacks & blocks.

The 255's seem to barely fit in the front wheel well. There does not appear to be that much additional space between the tire and the suspension components.

A 275 wide tire will require at least a 9" wide rim and with the extra width of the wheel and tire.......that set-up is bound to rub....especially when turning.

I have seen some posts on some forum (this or another) where someone tried a 275 wide front tire and didn't even make it out of the tire shop parking lot without issue.
