Replacing turbo on S65

Watched this video of a tech pulling the engine to replace a turbo...pretty interesting.

It is a long, but fairly common procedure as engine mounts which are a common failure require the same procedure.

Very cool nevertheless. Every time I see the v12 drop out without a snag it brings a smile

The motor mount replacement requires the engine drop?

On my 2008 S65 I was charge 6.5 hours (at the local dealership) to replace motor and transmission mounts with no charge for coolant etc that would be related to removing the engine. So, somebody has figured out how to replace mounts with removing the engine. I do think the WIS shows around 25 hours labor though (could be wrong). Total charge including parts was $1,303.25.

Very interesting video. I replaced the engine mounts on my V12TT last year. I didn't move the engine - just supported it and dropped the subframe. I also replaced all the ABC pipes at the same time.

That allowed me to keep all the oil, water, air, fuel, HVAC, ABC and electrical interfaces connected, which saves a great deal of work (and risk). No need to even remove the cold air intakes.

Its still a difficult job, as access to the left upper forward engine mount bolt is blocked by the AC compressor. A high quality E-torx ratchet wrench may help.

Changing the engine mounts was actually a "while I'm at it" activity, as I rebuilt both turbos. The right hand side one was leaking oil and smoking, so I removed and rebuilt both. The turbo rebuild kits, ABC pipes and motor mounts totalled about £400.

Nick
