Tesla S P90D

Okay, so whew....Tesla is offering a 24 hour Test drive and I wound up with a P90D. Here a few shots and I'll report more on it later if any one is interested. I have never driven a faster car(762-hp), the acceleration is BRUTAL, especially on Ludicrous Mode. The ride is no where near an S class, nor is the interior and that's comparing it to my 08". This particular Tesla is loaded except for NO air ride suspension. It has every other option including Auto Pilot so I don't know why the air suspension delete. I also think my S class is quieter on the road. So far, my money would go to a new S class unless I was looking for speed. Click on the link below for pics..

I drove one as well. As a stand alone exercise it's intriguing. How or why it's always being compared to the S Class I have no idea. Price I guess?

The acceleration is a blast but it felt very sterile and pointless without the accompaniment of an ICE soundtrack and upshifts. Like a giant RC car. The tech is really cool though.

If I could afford a stable I'd have one to keep things interesting, but can't do it as a DD.

That sums it up perfectly. IMO, it feels like, maybe, a 60k car instead of the 120k price tag. I still have a stupid grin on my face from the acceleration, though...

I drove the car with air suspension on awful roads in south beach (Miami, FL). Fastest car I ever drove, other than maybe a Porsche 911 turbo. The ride was just as good as my 221, but, again, the tesla I drove was an S (not a D) with air suspension. The interior isn't as nice as my 221 but you get a lot of bang for your buck with the tesla as long as you don't take too many road trips that exceed its range. Otherwise charging would be annoying and time consuming. The convenience and cost saving associated with never having to fill up with gas is a a huge bonus. It also has tons of cargo space, but anything with more cargo space than my 911 is a bonus for me.

Well my test drive ended up on a flatbed at a Mercedes dealer. Was returning it when I get a low tire pressure warning. At first I thought big deal, just a cold morning. But it kept losing pressure, about 2 to 3 pounds a min. It just happened to be by my Mercedes dealer when I was forced to pull over. Quite a few folks came over to check it out with the "WTF are you doing here" looks. Anyway, scheduled another test drive Wednesday with a P85 with the air suspension.

Now there's some irony for you. Can't really blame the car but not the way to end a test drive. When I was pricing a Tesla they were having a huge problem with the 20" wheels. Something to do with the fixed camber position. They were chewing the inside edge of the tires down to the bands, and because the rest of the tire looked perfect a lot of owners missed it.

This seems like a fun idea. It would be cool to try this out for 24 hours. I may give it a shot.
