Malfunction issue

Hey Guys,
I have an 07 S550, I've been having suspension problems for a couple of weeks now. The "malfunction" light is on. Ive attached a picture of the light with this post. It seems the front shocks/suspension is problematic. I get a lot of "squicky" sound when I go over the smallest speed bump and the car bounces too much when making turns.

Does the "malfunction light" mean I need new shocks? Any help to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Oh boy. A couple of weeks? Probably the most common issue affecting the S Class. If you're lucky all it needs is new air strut. If you continue to run the car in that state it will burn up the compressor as well. Looking at around $1k for the strut replacement OEM. A little less with a reman unit from Arnot.

It would be good if you could get to someone who has a MB Technician's XENTRY/STAR DIAGNOS workstation, and it may tell you which struts are affected. It could be a combination of multiple struts instead of just one, so a trip to an independent, the dealer, or a buddy with one of those workstations is a good start. If it is just the struts, you can look at www.arnottindustries.com to get rebuilt struts with a limited lifetime warranty.

thanks, what's an estimate on the labor? also, is there a diy, is it easy to replace? I have all the tools and I usually fix my car issues myself.

Do a search. There are several DIYs.

Not to be a dick, but did you look at the top of the steering column in your photo? Dude, you're driving an S-Class, not a Geo Metro. Have some pride and try to keep the car clean.

To answer some of your questions, there are YouTube videos from Arnott that show how to replace the struts and the compressor. Front struts look easier to do than rears. Compressor is easiest to replace. I would get an Independent shop with a star system to help diagnose the system.

so it could be alot of issues. i had this issue just a couple months ago. the squeek i just couldnt stand anymore then my malfunction light came on and it was my front passenger strut. while replacing my front passenger strut i replaced, front lower control arms, radius arms, front strut bushings. i forgot what else i replaced. but now the car is perfect. no squeek and no malfunction light. its pretty easy to do it yourself. if you ever changed out a shock on any car is about the same process except a couple more steps. just afterwards get alignment. theres a ton of threads about it on here. good luck bro.

So i took it to the dealer for diagnostics. I was told their is a leak somewhere, the suspension air compressor might be faulty. I need a new compressor and rely. Also, i need a both left and right lower control arm. The compressor seems to run cheap, i checked autozone and saw it for around 200-300 bucks. Can you guys recommend a good one? Also, it seems like an easy diy. Does the computer have to be reprogrammed once the new compressor is installed? Thanks guys.
