Nice proportions. This design on the C looks stubby, on the E just right. Love that interior too. This might be the next car for me.

It looks so much like the W222, except for a bit shorter.

Edit: Just saw it on the main page.

They're just a few on a Dutch site. U.S. reveal is at the IAS in Detroit next week, probably get a lot more and higher res stuff then.

The Coupe version should be stunning. The E had always been a fly-over car for me. The current car looks like it's made by a different company. But this E is a contender. If you don't need the size or over the top plushness of the 222, a nicely loaded AMG Sport version with the mid tier "Avante Garde" trim level and the 23 speaker Burmester audio, and 20" Multispoke wheels would do the trick.

Nice. The interior looks amazing. Just looks like a smaller s class. But the interior is where its at.

That makes my mouth water...

What is the price difference of the 2017 loaded E vs. the base S222? Without searching it I'm thinking in the range of 30-40k.

Would you be keeping your W221?

I'm going to guess the base E will start mid 50's, with a Luxury version for a couple grand more and a Sport version for a couple grand on top of that.

Messing with C configurations, the base car is $38k and you can easily add $20k in options. I'm thinking low $70's would get you a very nice E.

A base 222 with no Premium Packages at all is high 90's, but what you'll find on dealer lots will be in the $110k range.

The S comes off warranty in November of next year, so the E would be its successor. I was really digging that C loaner...it drives beautifully...but it's a little cramped. The E is on the same platform. If it handles anywhere near as well as the C, it would be ideal.

Agree. My personal favorite is the black and white with open pore black ash trim. Not loving the Designo Nappa saddle brown and cream at all. The beige would be my second pick.

Yeah, I ended up getting to know the site admin during that whole ******* debacle so I shot him a link. Not sure if I had the scoop or not, but I've been counting down the days to the Detroit show.

Some details on power trains and suspension. Big takeaways for me are the 9 speed transmission and optional AirMatic.

I like the design with the traditional Mercedes grille. Grille proportion is just right on the E. It is too large like a jack-o-lantern smile on the S.

Now it will be even more difficult to take a quick glance and tell an S-Class from a C or an E.

So now the C, E, and S all look alike. Only way to tell them apart is by size and subtle differences while the car is standing still. It would probably be difficult to tell them apart as it flies by you on the road.

I think when were talking in the abstract it's easy to be critical or dismissive. Like if we're evaluating a super model and we complain she has a slight overbite. But if that same super model showed up in our driveway and wanted to have sex with us, we'd probably entirely forget the issues with dentition and have a go at her anyways.

Yeah, I like it. I'm presently driving a C300 loaner, with sport package. For some reason, I really like that little car. Step it up in size a bit, option it with Airmatic, keep the feel, looks and handling, and I'm with Mike - unless you need the size or super-fancy of the S, I think the E will be something very compelling.

It's the chassis and steering set up. The seats are decent with the thigh extension, and the tech is cool too. I drove a loaded up Sport on AirMatic. It rides a lot like the S on Air, same gentle rebound, very serene on the highway.

An E on Air would probably be just right in terms of size and performance.

I dislike it , E Class should have been kept it's distinctive lines no matter what but I must admit given W205's lovable portions and exterior ,this new gen must be looking better in person
If you asked me what car that was I would say that's a long version for W205 Class

Same sausage different sizes , W222 Owners should have a fuzzy feeling when it comes to sizes ,mine is bigger than yours , get it ?

Probably lease. I don't want to marry a first year model. MB residuals put the sweet spot at 36 months. $70k MSRP should put the payment at or near $1k S&D. Really depends on how MB bundles the packages. I'd want the full glass dash and the premium Burmester, AirMatic and the AMG sport appearance package.

While the new car is a massive improvement over the current car, nothing about it screams "must have" to me. The interior is very nice in the upscale models, but the exterior looks too feminine and plain jane to me....just like the current S & C. I prefer the exterior of the current Bimmers to all of the new Benz models. If BMW packed as much tech and the interior from the new Benzes into their models, I'd be considering a BMW as my next car. But I guess we can't have it all.

Yeah, the new sheet metal is not as emotionally evocative as the 221. It's their new corporate "sensual purity/modern luxury" design language. They're definitely simpler and I guess plainer, but I have seen a couple of 222's in AMG Sport trim on 20" multispoke wheels that are very handsome. Apparently the style is a hit. MB is posting some of its best sales months history, with the new C leading the pack.

More importantly, the new cars based on that lightweight modular platform drive, ride and handle so nicely. Even the dinky C Class. It used to be that AirMatic was what cleanly defined the S versus the lesser models. Nothing rides like an S. Except now Air is an option on the C (drove one, rides like a smaller 221) and also on the E. The E is going to poach S sales. (Interesting that ABC seems to be going extinct. The C63 and C450 AMG share identical magnetic suspensions with selectable dampening.

And the step up in interiors is obvious. I was at a BMW store yesterday actually. I'd forgotten how cheap and plasticky the interiors are. Only the 7 gets a halfway decent one, and the 6 if you load on the Nappa and stuff. The 3 and 5...ugh.

The C450 is a really interesting car. It gets the suspension and brake package from the $80k C63, and a biturbo V6 (not hand built) with an AMG exhaust and AWD and it is a riot to drive. Maybe a bit firm in the suspension (3 settings) but I had a ****-eating grin the whole test drive. It's 80% the C63 for around $65k nicely optioned.

I'm hoping they do a half step AMG car in the E as well.

I saw that the E63 is going to have a 4.0L bi-turbo V8 with 600+ HP. That is absolutely insane out of that displacement, especially for a motor that will not likely be high-strung. But I'm guessing torque number will be less than the HP output.

I will need to see them in person to make a call. It does look like the front will look a bit better than the current model.
