Well throw the rebar and the absorbers into the backseat then and let the shop figure it out. My guy said they want to use the old bar because it connects right to the rails and since it's already messed up they can yank on it without doing any more damage.

Thank you for talking to your guy about this, I appreciate it.
I'm going to put it on myself. No way am I putting those filthy, pointy things in there!
Has the website not updated the clock after daylight savings change? I wonder if its done manually.

Well, you're famous enough to have made it onto http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...-on-the-forums
geesh it took a long time to catch up on this thread.
I guess have to admire your enthusiasm. Many years ago I rebuilt a recovered theft RX7; engine, tranny, interior wheels etc. I took on that project because I knew it was just wrenching and nothing was out of line. I got lucky when I was just about done as I got put into a guard rail by an IROC Z28. The adjuster was sloppy and didn't look at the title which was still listed as a salvage title. Had he done his job right I'd have been out
around $6k.
About a year ago I had to have the rear quarter panel on my E repaired. That came in at just about 10K for just the passenger side. There was no frame damage although we did put it on the machine to be sure.
Is your S just black or is it obsidian black?
Makes a huge difference when you go to paint it.
It's very difficult to get the blend right because of the metallic flakes.
I'll throw a question out there because every state is different about insurance laws.
How do you go about re-establishing the vehicles value?
In Mass a vehicle with a salvage title can not be re-insured for collision.
There are processes where you can have the state re-inspect it but you have to tow it in on a flat bed and have all of your receipts on hand along with original insurance appraisal listing original damages.
Truly is a PITA.
This is rather important since I'll assume based on what I've read so far, you're not really in a position to write off $12k out of pocket if the car gets severely damaged again. Without collision coverage that is where you'd be.
lastly, you've made a couple of references to this is not a civic.
you couldn't be more right. civics are substantially more reliable and have much lower repair costs.
Depending on who you have do your maintenance, and the age of your vehicle, I'd assume an annualized figure of 200-400 a month on repair and service costs. that might actually be on the conservative side depending on how much you drive it.
Hopefully none of the electronics got wet while the trunk was open.
If they did, plan on anywhere up to 10K to replace them all.
The damage does not look severe enough to have damaged any of the wiring harnesses.

Thanks for that Bolton! You got truly lucky with your RX-7.
In Oregon there is no inspection, but there is in Washington. In both states you can get collision insurance like a clean titled car.
I got the standard black color. I like the metallic flakes, but the look of the solid black is classic. Fortunately, the trunk was zip-tied shut after the accident, and the transport driver placed adhesive film during transport for extra protection.
