Cost for front brake job?
My local dealer is putting in a new coil pack to take care of the misfires. While in there, they said that one of my front pads is down to 1 MM and should be replaced within days. The other pads are around 2 MM. They're willing to send me picture to show me. They've giving me a quote to change out the front rotors, pads, sensor, bleeding, etc of $803+tax, which would take it to around $840.
I called a local indy who I've worked with many times in the past and was quoted $471 out the door for OEM rotors & pads, sensor, and complete brake job.
Are dealer markups really that high for front brakes? Or am I just getting the deal of the century from my indy?

Around here, the labor rates for the dealer are $150/hr. That is probably where the main difference in mark up is.

I don't know what year your car is, I looked up 2009.
Rotors are selling online for $140 each
http://www.oediscountparts.com/parts...&siteid=215242
Front pads can be EBC red stuff. listed for $115
Wear sensor is about $25. Only one on the passenger side.
So if you're doing it yourself, it will cost you about $420 in parts. If the mechanic is quoting you $470, just get it done

Dealer price for front and rear rotors of S65 are $1100 each. There's $4400 right there. $290 for front pads, $170 for rear pads. So about $5k parts. Rest is labor

You mic the rotors and if they are reasonably above the minimum wear limit, they can easily be reused.
Pad slaps, as you call it, are totally fine. Simply bed the new pads in to create an even layer of new pad deposits and you're fine.
You can scuff up the old rotors if you find it necessary, but not a big deal.
Replacing good rotors for no reason is simply a waste of money.

I use common sense when replacing rotors, if they look bad I change them. If they are straight no grooves with no lip I leave them.

What I find disconcerting is that it needs a 2nd set of front pads at only 33k miles. The car has never been driven hard. Perhaps MB needs to be using longer lasting pads.

The new OEM rotors are pretty thick and have no lip on them. Hard to believe this car is getting its 3rd set of pads at only 33k miles. I'm guessing the OEM pads must be very soft to only last 16k miles a pop.

Brakes are reasonably priced for your car. Looks like you'd be at $575 in parts to the the front and rear rotors, pads, sensors.

I hav the Zimmerman coated rotors on my x5, I did pads and rotors on that in 2013 and just swapped the pads for akebonos as the pads were done. Rotors still look great. also swapped my s550 pads for akebonos, wayyy better. If you guys are still on stock benz pads with all that crazy dust your crazy.

Zimmerman brakes work exactly like OEM brakes with one minor difference. Each time the brake pedal is depressed, the car's synthesized female navi voice says the phrase, "Oy! Again with the stopping?"
It's jarring at first but eventually you get used to it.
