Proper tire size

Question for the everyone. Recently installed 20's and I'm getting rubbing in rear if I go over bump too fast or hard turn. I'm have 285/35/20 rear and 265/35/20 up front. Shop where I bought is telling me that is factory recommended size, however I believe the OEM size is 275/35/20 rear and 255/35/20 front. Am I correct? Will that size alleviate rubbing in rear? Thanks everyone.

your assumptions are correct. There is a small tab near the rear bumper that you can cut off. I hav 275 rears lowered and still no rubbing.

Is this the tab you are referring to?

Tire rub

It is where the rear bumper meets the rear fender. I don't see where else this could be rubbing as I have about 2 fingers of space between tire and fender. Did you just grind it off them touch it up?

Tire rub

Took them off, That did not do it. Stock offset was 35mm 255/45/18. New wheel is 45 mm offset. I'm assuming it's the width that's slightly rubbing on the inside of my fender. Will coming down to a 275/35/20 alleviate?

Is this a 4matic car. If so you need to be careful with tire sizing. They need to be within 3% in radius from front to back if it is 4 matic.

285 is too tall for the rear. 275/35/20 rear and 255/35/20 front is the correct size although MB did not offer a 20" wheel in 2007. Offset should be fine as 43MM is factory. I would get a 15MM spacer for the rear once you get the tires figured out. 15MM will kick the tires out towards the fenders a bit for a more aggressive stance. You will need to shave off the nub you took a pic of though.

Update

Changed out rear to 275/35/20 and front to 255/35/20. No more issues.

guys, not trying to hijack, but will this work on my 2010 fourmatic?

Brand: VESTEON Offset: 38mm fr, 38mm rr Manufacturer Part Number: A25208506M-590 Number of Bolts: 5 Rim Material: Alloy Bolt Pattern: 5x112 Rim Width: 8.5fr 9.5rr Hub Bore: 66.56 Rim Diameter: 20 Rim Structure: One Piece

I was going to run 275/35/20 on rear and 255/35/20 on front...just concerned about offset....will I be ok?

The bolt pattern and offset are perfectly fine. I have no idea about the hub measurement. If the mfr says that they are OK for the W221, then I'm sure they are fine.

I would check out some of the on line tire size calculators to make sure you are getting tires with the same rolling diameter. I have heard that up to 3% difference is OK but you can fall out of that pretty quick if you are not checking. Staggered wheels look cool but there are some downsides.

I am really looking for similar overall diameter tires, those ones seem to fit the bill ok. Was mostly worried about rubbing issues due to offset. The company selling them say there is no issue...BUT they don't sell tires.
Thanks!!

You should be able to match the rolling diameter exactly if you pick the right size tires.

Below is the Mercedes tire sizing for staggered tires on 4matic.
