Rear seats head rest lowering
Hi!
Guys I need help to lower middle back headrest. Is it possible?
When I push lower button, both side will go lower position except middle one.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Manual is not clear but only rear outer seat head restraints are referenced on second page, as confirmed in below posts. Check the release lever shown in attachment.

On my car, with rear seat comfort package, the middle headrest lowers automatically via the headrest button. The difference is that the outer headrests are "powered", but the middle one just flops down.

I think it's the dumbest design. Since 1995 the flop down, but you have to manually pick them back up unless you have the $4,000 rear seat package. Should be standard just like the ones on the driver seats.

I think it's a flawed design as well. Even with the rear seat package, the outer headrests raise and lower electronically while you have to raise the center headrest manually and it just plops down when lowered like the non-rear seat package cars.

Oh wow! I didn't know that! So you still gave to raise them manually.

You still have to raise the center headrest manually and when it lowers, it's not powered like the outer headrests, it just plops down like on the non-rear seat package cars.

Its been a while since this question was asked/posted but I"ll answer it just for the sake of future enquirers
I have a 2000 model S430
There is a button in the middle of the dashboard next to the Hazard light button
It is the rear headrest release button, if all headrests are in the up position then activating this button releases them back to the lowered position.
Good luck

press the button by the comand knob - with NOTHING on the rear seat squab they should auto lift - from the behaviour of mine I guess its pneumatic / vac operated
mine threw their teddies after she left a hat behind the left rear and it mangled it - but over a month it reassessed the world and is back to normal
if yours does nothing suspect an air leak

Thanks. Can you please elaborate what is rear comfort seat package? My rear passenger can adjust their own seat though

I missed "not"off the end
with NOTHING on the rear seat squab they shouldn't auto lift - but even with or without a load on the seat - you should retain full manual control (via comand knob buttons) of the headrests on the two outer seats (I've forgotten how the middle one does it - definitely folds down if you tell them all to fold for sure....)
comfort rear seats - I suspect means individual adjustment of the outer two seats - for lumbar and backrest angle (and maybe seat squab length)
comfort headrests - are just one a bit like planes where you can force the sides for more support

HI Samuel, My 08 S550 with rear seat package has an issue with lumbar massage not working left or right front and rear center head rest is inop. You said you fixed your air leak. Where was the problem? Is there one air pump for all these options? My outboard rear head rests operate fine powering up or done with the console switch and are adjustable on the rear doors.
Thanks
Tony

I just responded about this in a similar post, but my MB tech said I have a bad motor related to my rear headrests, that is causing my seat massage in front to not work--dreaded return to 0 when I hit the massage button. I had never heard of this part, nor seen it talked about, but you might want to check this out as a possibility...https://www.mbdirectparts.com/oem-pa...tor-2169700125
On the other hand, can anyone confirm for me that the vacuum system is all connected as one, and a rear headrest issue could cause my seat massage to not work? It sounds weird to me, but what do I know?

rubbish its all pneumatic there is no motor in there - leaks from cracked pipes - you'll get the overheating message like the other post today
and or stuck valves bounce on the seat go for a drive it'll likely wake up

the front head rests go up and down with a button on a motor and or seat belt height - but that's not the rear ones folding / not folding - and its not the pressure issues not giving you the massage feature

when you first unlock the car - a small pump runs immediately to provide pressure for the seat bolsters, lumbar, massage, and headrest elevation in the back seats - its should be around 20 second and then you likely never hear it again - as the car is full of noisy people, the radio and or the engine operating.... As long as there are no leaks - the pressure doesn't go away.... and you should NEVER hear air moving about or escaping inside the car OR the pump cycling on and off every 30 seconds or so - the massage will make the pump have to work for a living but you don't hear it - but I guess that why the massage takes a rest after 10 minutes or so....
Once you park and turn off the engine - with the key out, after 5 minutes you hear a valve dump some air pressure in a small release (more like a refined solenoid and slight relaxation for a split second than a pop or anything more exciting) to stop strain on all the pathetic little air bags inside everywhere all over the chairs squabs and backrests ...
