Pics of my new car! Traded the w221 for w222

Hey buddy, your car looks beautiful. I love the white color on that car.
I had a W222 last year and I am one of the few that have gone back to the W221, but will share my thoughts. First I sold my W222 for personal reasons, not that I did not like it, because I certainly did. I do feel the W222 was a bit quicker when you punch it, but not a great deal as the W221 is plenty fast. I do feel that in sport mode, the W222 feels a bit tighter.
The interior is upgraded as well, with a natural progression in technology and the command system.
The seats area just as comfortable to me, and the W221 has massaging seats, and multicontour just like the W222.
The exterior is the biggest change to me. I like the W222, but also love the W221. It is an iconic design. I have done a lot of business with my local MB dealer and when I was shopping for this car, asked him about the W221 and W222. The salesman told me people call constantly about the availability of used W221's, and when they get them, they will typically sell very quickly. So.. the demand seems high on them. Now, this could partly be because of the price point on the W221 as they are considerably less expensive than even the 2014 W222's.
I love my W221, but also loved the W222. You will enjoy it. I recently bought this car because I loved the design and found one equipped with all the goodies my kids and I wanted, so I made the move and found one certified. Mine is a 2013, and was able to pick one up in the low $30k's as opposed to a 2014 in the low $60k's, or high $50k's. Quite a difference to me. This W221 is not my only car, so that may make a difference to some.
Anyhow, I don't think you can go wrong with either, as they are both great cars. Enjoy your new W222!!

Hey, I bought the big-a** W221 for a reason I WANT it to look big, with the flared arches etc. But other than that the W222 is a beauty.

Doubtful. The engines were carryovers from the 2012 - 13 models. The W222 has some new electronics that the W221 didn't have, such as those dual 12 inch screens, lane keeping, semi-autonomous driving, etc. More stuff in the cars means more stuff that can go wrong and most likely will at some point. Warranty coverage is an absolute must.

Of course the question itself is a bit fuzzy. Comparing against just the MY12-13 only or the whole 7 year cycle? The W222 also had more changes than mentioned. Small changes to engine components, updated transmission hardware and software, updated Airmatic and ABC (MBC). More or less non-issue areas now.
Even the V12 coil packs are gone now (as ItalianJow1 reminded me)
More electronics actually doesn't mean higher failure rates. Its the age of the product design as well. People think that a car at the end of the lifecycle is more mature = reliable but when it comes to electronics it means more ancient. Many processor modules in a MY12/13 were designed with processors and tech from the early 2000's.
But as stated, expensive parts will fail and warranty coverage is a must for the W222 just like any S-Class for that matter

As the W222 ages, it will suffer high failure rates, just like the W221 & W220. And the guys who move from an old W221 to a 5-6 year old W222 will see the same kinds of problems that they saw in their 5-6 year old W221's. It's been decades since MB had any kind or reputation for long term reliability. The more complicated that German cars become, the worse their long term reliability seems to be. MB reputation for "over-engineering" their cars only seems to make things worse. I would have dumped my car a long time ago if I didn't have excellent warranty coverage that has picked up several high cost repairs. $16k paid out so far in just 3 years, with 4 years of coverage left. I'm sure it's not going to get better.

I do not think these are high problem or high failure rate cars, I would guess they break down about as much as any other modern car. The problem is the stealerships that want to charge an arm and a leg to fix issues that would be substantially less on a Honda Accord. I have had 50K trouble free miles on my MY2012 4Matic and I drive it pretty hard. I spent $3400 on the extended MB warranty and it will be up in another year so I will probably sell the car at that point but I think I have only had around 1500 in claims on the warranty in the time I owned the car so not sure it was worth it.

So after a couple weeks looking for the right replacemnent found the car i wanted and bought it the next day... Got some good advice from my buddy Jason to leave a deposit on the car before i got there so they couldnt sell it.
So onto details....diamond white, exclusive black nappa, comfort package, Amg sport package, designo black piano black trim, warmth and comfort package, premium 1, drivers assist package, rear spolier and suede headliner!
so after driving for 2 days the cars are pretty night and day. cars handling has improved drastically and it feels lighter and nimbler than the 221, the power increase is noticeable thanks to the twin turbos and flies onto the highway. Interior is amazing ambient lights are brighter and deeper. Burmeister stereo is clearer w much better low end bass response, bluetooth streaming is amazing, main sunroof feels larger, I do feel the back legroom is less but havent tried to verify that. Trunk opens w a kick under center bumper and closes same way. Overall the car def feels more refined and wayy less boaty and so far glad with the swap. Onto a few pics. Whats your thoughts?

2007 S600: 0 to 60 in 4.1 sec, 1/4 mile in 12.4 sec.
2014 S550: 0 to 60 in 4.8 sec, 1/4 mile in 13.4 sec.
For a base S-class those are still impressive numbers.
The S600 is a torque monster with torque just shy of a C7 Z06. A reliable $1k tune puts torque at 750, 100 more than the Vette.....and HP at 620.
