Coming back late to the conversation

If someone can save me going through 21 pages of conversation that will be great. From what I can see:
  1. You can get the GPS splitter cable and use the car aerial instead
  2. You can connect a DAC to the unit and connect the DAC output to the car?
  3. Not sure what the microphone jack is for, does the unit not use the car built in mic?
  4. I think I read somewhere that navigation instructions come out from a front speaker on the unit?
Thanks

1) Not in my car. Depends on your Farka plug (and command versio I guess)
2) Yes, Unit>usb>dac>RCA audio/3.5 jack
3) No, it does not use that.
4) If you use DAC, it will come over speaker, but then you use the unit for all your sound. Should you use command audio, then the extra speaker would be needed.

Hope this helps. For Details, please check the 21 pages. :-_

Correct.

1 - You may need a different splitter based on the COMAND version you have.
3 - Getting a better quality mic than the one that comes with the unit is advisable, if you don't use COMAND bluetooth/phone functions. The built in mic is pretty bad.
4 - If you play audio from COMAND (radio, cd, MP3, etc.) then the unit has no way to output audio, seeing how it's connected to AUX. They provide the crappy little speaker so you get some sort of sound.

I ran a male to male 3.5mm and connected to the media interface AUX in the glovebox. When the system is set to AUX in comand, there is some sort of hum when the media interface (ipod + Aux 3.5 jack) is plugged in. When the male jack tip touches the collar of the 3.5 female jack there is sound from the right side. There is distorted crackling from the left side and constant whine. When the male is fully plugged in, there is no sound except the hum.
That's strange. Does your AUX work otherwise? With other sources?

You should double check your settings on the Android side. Alternatively you can try using a DAC and see if sound via Android->USB->car AUX works.

I have version 7.1.1 maybe it's that or the settings?
what else can i try to make these buttons work. I have already tried pressing for 15 seconds

Did maybe the cable come lose? It is in post 474. It was connected to the button array between the screens.

the button array plug is usually connected via one wire only. If there is no dedicated plug, maybe the wrong pin was used?
another option is the wrong ntg setting in factory settings (if you choose protocol for 3.5 then buttons won't work on 3.0)

i found the problem..
I thought they plugged in the plug but it turns out not connected.
they probably ordered the wrong cable with the screen so I can't connect the cable..
what I want to do now is extend the cable and connect it to the original buttons that I will place at the fuse box on the left. This way I can still operate when it is necessary
i hope it works

There are far more and different farka plugs!

Ths double connector has 2x one pin.

Then are two connectors with a 4 pin layout. A gray-ish - lightblue one, and a pink one.

These all connect to the cd player unit.

Then there is de one that connected to the old screen: a light blue one. Also with 4 pins.

Needless to say, the gps signal splitter mentioned somewhere else in this thread does not work. I have not yet found a site that sells 4-pins splitters.

I have not yet found out what signal each farka plug is for. So help of someone who knows is welcome.
As to guesses: According to some sites:
Heather Violet (pink) as well as signal blue are: GPS telematics and navigation.
That could make sense as audio level increases with speed. So both the screen and the cd unit could use this signal

Blue Gray is Remote Keyless Entry
(and why would that connect to the cd unit?)

Water blue is Neutral (fits all).
What would the double pin be for?

If possible, I would like to get both the GPS and the phone antenna input on the android unit connected to the original car antenna.
Does anyone knwo where to get a splitter for these 4-pin farka plugs? Do I need them to achieve the use of the mercedes roof antenna?

My second quesiton regards the optical cable. How should i connect the mercedes combined plug to the provided y like setup? How i ask

All your help is greatly appreciated. And like followed by other questions..
did anyone figure out which color is for what?

i found a chart and assume blue is GPS...but i'm not certain.
i'm trying to split the GPS.

thanks!

GPS is in the larger plug. GPS plugs have only 1 pin in the middle. The other ones are most likely LVDS video or other data.

Hello Mega,
Thanks for helping out us noobs....I think the issues I have may be traced to a short somewhere either in the wire harness on the 3.5 jack to the COMMUNICATION MEDIA CONTROL MODULE 2049009301 or the actual module itself. I will restore the system to OEM and then sort this out. I am appreciative of the recommendations on the DAC...I will get that done once this is sorted out.

Question on the humming issue when using the AUX out to AUX MMI input. Was this issue ever resolved by anyone who had it? I am experiencing the same sort of issue was well on my newly installed Android unit. If anyone could help that would be fantastic!

Either use a quality DAC (you won’t regret it) or use a ground loop isolator (cheap).

Thank you for the quick response. In terms of a DAC, I would be going from one of the USB outputs in the glove box to the same AUX MMI input?

Exactly! The audio quality is superb.
I have an iFi Audio - Nano iOne. With a very short audio cable. I routed both of the USB connectors into the glove box. One I use for the DAC the other for Carplay (with a dongle).

Awesome! Thank you. So you’re running CarPlay through one of the USB’s and not using the wireless CarPlay function?

Yes. Its works reliable and lag free. I remapped the ‘music app’ to the carplay app. And i’ve automated it so when launching the carplay app, it turns the volume to 100% (android system volume of the head unit)

This is exactly the route that I want to take. What is the procedure for remapping the music app?

You can do it in the factory setup menu off the headunit. From a certain firmware up.

You can remap some, not all, to a custom app.

+1 to everything said, especially about the DAC. I am running both a ground loop isolator and a DAC. The ground loop isolator took care of the static issue. Not sure what effect the DAC had in terms of noise but you can’t go wrong with both.
