2007 S550
Is now the time to buy?

I purchased a 2007 s550 in 2015 with 94,000miles, it currently has 176,000+ miles on it. The problems we have had have been the usual issues, some of these of course were much more expensive than I was used too. I have performed most of the work myself and find it can often be rewarding but am sure to have aspirin on hand. This car has been a godsend for my wife who suffers from a severe and chronic neck injury. I have tried every car I can get my hands on and nothing compares to the ride quality and comfort for my wife. Sooo... were stuck with Mercedes S class. Were getting to the point with our current car that everything needs replaced. The radio recently went out, looks like I need to purchase a HK amp, also one of the passenger seat air bags developed a leak. This is the one thing my wife appreciates the most. Today the A/C went out. It doesn't look to be a "low freon/coolant" thing. I just replaced both headlights, a marker light, air pump, front and rear brakes, tail light, all four tires, windshield etc... With any car I would have to replace this stuff. Most of it is just regular wear and tear, but it is still expensive. I have gotten to the point where I ask whats next?! I did not fall behind on the "maintenance curve", this stuff just kind of all happened in the last couple of months.

Sooo... I'm looking at purchasing a 2013 with only 18,100 miles. I would love to move to the w222, but there is easily a $15,000 jump in price moving from a 2013 to a 2014. However, the 2019 new body style will be upon us shortly.
I have been watching the prices of these cars the last couple of years and they don't necessarily follow the same path in price performance of other brands. I was expecting the w222 to drop after the first of the year, but they didn't come down in price at all like every other manufacturer. So I was thinking that with a new model year this would drive the price down.
So what do you guys and gals think? Should I wait or is now the time to buy a 2013? Historically will the current generation suffer a price hit once the new model year is introduced? Curious to hear what you more experienced buyers can teach me. Thanks in advance for your reply's

There’s always a big price drop on the previous chassis after a new one is released (though I hadn’t heard that a new body was coming next year?). Either way, once the current body style isn’t current, you’ll see much more favorable pricing.

It depends on how long you will be keeping the car. I would spend the extra money and get as new as possible with as low mileage as possible. The most dramatic depreciation is in the first three years and after that they become pretty affordable. I would not own one past around 60K miles though or more that about 5 years old. That seems to be when the gremlins start to show up.

Agree.

Bought my 07 with 13k miles, garage kept, I'm at 148k. Its in excellent shape but the longer you keep it things may go bad. I would go w222 at this point if I were you. Way better technology and prices are dropping.

Thanks for your advice. I must be mistaken about the 2019 being new models. It does seem about 3 years too soon now that I think of it, maybe I shouldn't believe everything I read on the internet
I would love to buy a w222 but the price jump from a 2013 is too much to justify.

I am currently looking to buy and have been finding nothing but premium inflated junk in the Chicagoland area. It's a real bummer. I've got the cash to make a move and I want a 221, not a fan of the 222 body. I need to wait silently for a one owner trade or something. I think the ship is just about ready to sail when it comes to one owner, non wrecked 221's anymore.

If you'r going to go with a w221, get a 2010-2013 model. Less issues, the speed sensor in the older 7G-Tronic transmissions can go bad, throw off shift timing and cause problems. Siemens brand speed sensors are faulty, the newer Continental speed sensor is supposed to resolve that problem. Look for low miles and 1 owner if you can... makes a big difference. GOOD LUCK!

2010-2013 puts me into high mileage territory for what I'm looking to spend... I should add that I am a master tech who works on MB regularly, so repairs shouldn't be as costly as someone who needs to take their car in to be serviced.

Hi.

If you guys looking for this kind of car - I'd suggest to pay attention to this https://www.chambersmotorcarsofnatic...00af246698.htm
Yes, it has 2 owners, but the second owner was me and I owned it for 6 months only without any issues. I got this car from my friend, who works at that dealership, when It's been traded in at that time by 74 years old lady from MA.
I got it with 43K miles on ODO and put almost 7K highway miles in 6 months. I traded in this car for E250 Bluetec, because I did not want to use this car as a commuter car and pay high gas bills. The car condition is 9 out of 10.
Interior looks brand new. I don't think anybody ever sat in the rear seats at all. It has P2 package, no pano roof and no sport package.
P.S.> I do not work for this dealership.and have no any interest to advertise it. Just trying to help if you interested.
