Date & Time

Hello all, I haven’t really posted much about my car lately, but I’ll have a first year of ownership experiences posted soon (y’all are right about running costs, but it’s so worth it.) Anyways, I’m encountering an odd glitch with COMAND and wonder if any of you are experiencing it. My car refuses to change the analogue clock’s time. No matter what I do with COMAND it doesn’t change. This wouldn’t be an issue, but daylight savings time just ended and I wanted to revert it back. Also, the car will not change the date. It’s stuck at March 22, 2018. No matter what I try to change (date and time format, MMD:YY) etc. it still doesn’t do anything. I changed the car to 24 hour time on my way home this morning and now the car won’t change from that. It’s very strange. Not a big deal, but it’s very annoying. My car has had it’s COMAND updated previously (it has birds eye view and the video option in the top ribbon) if that matters at all. I’m hoping if I reset the system using the option in settings it might work. Anyways, please chip in thoughts or experiences, have a great day!

Fixed?

Whelp, the car fixed itself. I decided to go and try it again after writing this post and the car’s date was correct (November 4, 2018) and the time was off by one hour. I changed the time and alas the analog clock changed. Ah, the quirks of owner a decade old computer on wheels. Anyways, thanks for reading.

That is SOOO ironic. I do not work on these car professionally, but do on the side. I am working on a 2008 S63 AMG right now with the exact same problem! I updated Telematics to current version so I have Video option (very early product 2008 model) and noticed the IWC clock was wrong. When changing the date or time in COMAND, as soon as you exit the screen, you can go right back in there and the date has reverted back to 2003! I am going to disconnect the batteries briefly to see if that helps.

I noticed it last night and this morning. I did try to reboot COMAND (held down power button) but it didn’t seem to do anything. I drove the car again and the clock and date are still correct. It’s the first issue with COMAND I’ve had since I got the car last July. (07’ S550 Sport, 94k miles currently)

I did notice that when it was occurring. The car took about 15 seconds longer to load the maps and they were laggy for a bit after startup. Hopefully it’s not a sign the HDD is dying. But, I thought the HDD only handled map data and the system settings, audio, and telephone were handled on solid state storage separately.

Interesting for sure. When I changed the clock forward in the spring, no issue whatsoever.
When changing the clock backwards just now, analog clock did not move.

So what is the story? Wait until morning and see if it changed? Reset the system?

What exactly did you do?

Thanks in advance.

Totally WEIRD!!!!!!!!!
Just did the same, went outside to see if I could change the time and indeed, the analog clock moved and all is good.

Guess the German Engineers are trying to keep things interesting for us owners.

Update

So I took my car out today and low and behold the date has switched back. Luckily the time has stayed the same. I’m not gonna mess with it anymore until spring. Just think the debacle is funny.

Exact same situation for me, and to keep things entertaining, my date has set back to exactly the same date you have, time is correct.

To me, not really funny, ........ more like over engineered!

What year are your guys’ vehicles that are having the issue. Do you think it could be some date formatting glitch the NTG 3.0 systems have? Mine seems to be intermittent, as sometimes the date and time change will work. Just don’t mess with it when you get the time correct LOL.

Has anyone checked for codes via SDS? Wondering if battery voltage for the Consumer battery might also be an issue? I remember a thread from a while back about a bad clock affecting the COMAND system, so a bad clock is a possibility. Hoping you guys get this sorted before it happens to me!

Mine is a 2007, and I will for sure not mess with it, as the time on the analog clock is displayed correctly.
I have not searched for anything further, nor did I check for any codes.

I do not care too much about the date and will hope for the best in the spring when we go forward again.

The one I was referring to is a 2008 (production 4/2007) S63 AMG. It would not save the date no matter how many times I changed it in the COMAND. Also, it had the first generation telematics release (the 2007 no Video option release) and I upgraded all MOST ring devices to current versions, but it still had the issue with not being allowed to adjust the date - as soon as you left the calendar screen, it would revert back to 2003.

The IWC clock would not change either. It did move, but was just not adjustable. As mentioned above - these vehicles are VERY power hungry, and this one's consumer battery had been depleted to the point it was giving a Defective Alternator code in DAS. A battery replacement fixed many other things. It had been sitting for a long time without being driven.

Owners manual is a underrated book ;-) .... to adjust time & date make sure the GPS is OFF.
Key in - turn to pos 1 - (GPS will not start in this pos) .... Adjust time/date/timezone and remove key again. Next time you fire up all is ok ---
