Daily Driver

Hi all.

Anyone out there use their 221 as a daily driver.

I have a 2008 4Matic and a Honda Accord.

The Accord is a lease that is going away March 1st and the Benz becomes my daily driver. This worries me a bit. I suddenly realized that a car the is 17 feet long; pretty big.

Anyone use the 221 for daily driving? Love to hear from you. Is there anything I need to look for with mine? I only derive on secondary back roads, smooth and easy about 20 miles per day.

Anything I need to know? (BTW, the 2016 Accord Sport with a 6 speed has 19 inch wheels and is GREAT fun to drive).

I use my S550 as a daily and as you have noticed, it is BIG. Now if you mostly commute on the Highway, that may be ok. I drive mostly city miles to and from work and am therefore thinking about getting rid of the S again and get either a E or C.

I can understand that. Sad in a way because it is such a lovely car. A masterpiece.

I daily mine to Jersey City next to the W222. I see zero issues. Maybe I am just used to it and the size is a non issue, at least when it comes to driving. Parking on the other hand may be another issue.

NO! You'll regret it!
I drive mine (145k miles on it) daily ~62 miles, combination highway and secondary streets. My previous E430 was a fine car, but just did not have the comfort and finish that the W221 has. Previous to that I had a W140, also a great car. Due to the early issues with the W220s, I avoided them altogether until the W221 was available at the right price.

This car is long, however not much wider than many current cars, just have a side-by-side at an Accord or Camry, they are pretty close.

Now, if I lived in NY or Boston or some such place I might think differently ...

The W221 is a fantastic car to drive. It will have some issues down the line like most cars, but repairs will be S Class priced, even with an Indy. The 2016 Accord is a great car too. Probably the best looking one to date. What is your risk threshold?

I daily drive my W221 mostly in the streets and freeways on the weekends. For some reason I drive it as much as I can. The only time I don't drive it is when we have more than 5 people in the car. Other than that it is the car I drive the most. I am addicted to its ride and comfort.

Well, we shall see. I have to sell mine first before being able to do anything anyhow.

For some reason I just cannot bond with the S the way I did with my E in the past.

Another reason is that my wife refuses to drive the S due to its size.

I think that getting used to it is key. I drove it a lot yesterday and it becomes easy as you get used to it.

Good insight. I thank you! Certainly not a Manhattan car, (Yet they are used as limos in Manhattan) but a better application in other places.

My risk threshold is low BUT, I will dive the 221 daily and hope for the best. I will also give it the service that it needs and that will certainly help.

It's such a great car, truly. Besides our cars are just broken in at 140k+.

That is an interesting thing to say. I too bonded easily with my 2002 E430. The Big black 550 might take a bit more time as it is a bit intimidating, The 2202 E430 had a sense of humor but the s550 does not laugh at my jokes.

I am playing with the idea of getting an E again, but when I drive the S it is like "wow, it does not get any better than this".

What is wrong with me?????

So, you know that Daimler makes plenty of Benzes to go around, yeah? Just get an E and still have the S!

Very true.
However, after I pay the divorce lawyer, there may not be enough money left to keep just ONE Benz. ;-)

SOLD the S today and will most likely go back to an E.

It has been fun, but for me the car has way too many gadgets and is too big to be driven back and forth to work each.

Thanks to ALL of you for all your help and assistance. I am sure you will most likely find me on the W211 or W212 forum in the future.

Good luck with your E hunt! Sorry to see you go, but completely understand. My wife is quite fond of her 2010 E350, just a solid Benz.

Daly driver

ive had my 07 for about a year now and use it as a daily driver about 40 miles Plus as a commute to work and back and any further traveling after work. just hit 82000 miles and hast had any cons to it. I’d say go for it it’s an amazing car and breaking them in and getting them use to your driving is a must!
