I bought a 2009 s550. It has the Bluetooth module. It recognized my IPhone. Says it authorized it. But my iPhone does not show connected, and I cannot place calls. What do I need to do to correct this??
Any insight anyone can give me would be appreciated. I’ve searched and search, to no avail.
From what I am gathering while researching this, is I think I need to buy a Bluetooth adapter. The car is equipped with the part in the console, but there is no adapter in the car. Does that sound about right, that I need to buy the adapter??
There are two Bluetooth connections possible without adding the adapter in the glove box. The only one that works for phone control will show up as MB PhoneSystem. I do not recall what the other connection's broadcast ID is but it's not useable. The MB PhoneSystem bluetooth adapter is in the center console and looks like this;
If you have the iPhone adapter cable in your glove box, you can add the Bluetooth adapter (e.g. Bovee, Viseeeo, CarPro etc.) It will need to connect as a second BlueTooth device and will allow you to stream music via the AUX input in COMAND. They typically look like this;
I believe that the Bluetooth connection in the COMMAND system doesn't actually do anything. Or at least not on my car. I can connect but can't use it. I think you have to buy the devices specified by dlafever to make calls and stuff. Weird.
Thank you for the great info. I’m still a little unsure, so before I invest in anything, I want to make sure I buy the right piece. I only want the BT for making phone calls, I’m not too concerned about playing music. So for that reason, would I purchase the MB Phonesystem bluetooth adapter? Other than buying directly from Mercedes, is the next best place ebay? I really appreciate the help, this is our first MB, and after being Toyota owners for so many years, this is a learning process for us.
