Anyone here did their own transmission fluid replacement ? How difficult is this? does the car have to be level for this? otherwise I need 2 lifts.

Called some local shops and everyone says NO, Anyone in Northwest chicago suburbs that you can recommend ?

Did dealer break down price?
Like labor hours & labor rate?
How much oil, are they changing filter?
anything else?

Trans fluid drains and fills from same hole ... special tool obviously required

Amount to use depends on temperature, so need temp measuring tool, too.

Suction pumping tool, plus temp measuring tool.

See if they are running any specials on service, check dealer website, and if not see if they can give a slight discount.

This is one of the many reasons I bought a lift for my garage. It makes transmission fluid changes, driveline service (think the big rubber donuts) and many other jobs far easier and from my calculation paid for itself in the first 6 months of owning it.

An amazing dude with the handle of G-AMG posted a photo DIY for your transmission that he performed on his E350. You can get an idea of what is involved here;

If you're looking for the fluid, try a Shell distributor. They should have Shell ATF 134 FE for around $65 for a case of 12 quarts.

I have a 2007 and my research here showed I needed ATF134...did my flush for $65 (Fluid) and $30 (filter gasket combo). There are videos and instructions here - just search and you will find what you need to do it.

You should replace the transmission connector while you're at it. It's cheap insurance.

Trans service is easy to do.... On a hoist.

Trans pan has a drain plug. Fill via the dipstick. Get a long skinny funnel for it.

I change my ATF every 10,000 miles. The transmission is more sensitive about fluid then seems possible.

Replace the filter every other ATF fluid change.
