S600 AC problem

So at the start of each day my AC takes as much as 15 or so minutes to actually get cold. It blows warm as if the compressor is not turned on. I switch it on and off many times and after a while it finally works. Dont know if me switching it on and off even helps. When it does finally work, it blows ice cold on all vents. Anyone have this issue or any tips?

I don’t believe there is a simple answer to your question other than have a workshop with a quality diagnostic tool such as Star Diagnosis check the vehicle. It could be the blend doors in the dash need normalized, or it could be low on Freon. The S600 as you know has rear A/C, so if the rear components make the system more complex (which is located where vehicles without the Rear Seat Package have a deep console to store items and the S600 does not). It would be shooting in the dark to guess what the problem could be unless connecting the vehicle to diagnosis and connecting to the AAC system and reading the pressures and other values.

Hello Sir, did you finally figure out why AC blows warm for 15 minutes?... My S600 does the same thing

Check the various temperature sensors with a good scanner (preferably Xentry) when the car is cold.

15 years old never re-gassed - 10% permissible gas loss per year = its got nothing in it

No gas no cooling.... ever. Certainly worth verifying that there is sufficient refrigerant in the system.

If it has enough 134A in it you will get to replace the compressor.

It comes out the top after pulling the radiator and rad fan. If everything is original this is your opportunity to give it a new SERP belt, all the belt idlers and tensioner. How old is the water pump? Easy replacement now. If the radiator has never been replaced.... look real closely at the plastic seam that intake air passes through while finding its way to the air filters. Radiator likes to crack there for a leak that makes coolant injection to the intake air. How many miles? The alternator will live 100-120K miles. It also comes out the top.

With enough practice I got to be able to get the radiator and fan out pretty quickly. Due to doing aforementioned replacements mostly one at a time... all within 15,000 miles. Hindsight being all that is.

Pop your hood and with the AC on max put your hand on the larger diameter refrigerant hose which is usually somewhere in the upper right quadrant of the engine bay up high and about 3/4 of an inch in diameter it should be ice cold and sweating if not then you probably are low on refrigerant. I have a thread going with a slightly similar problem mine blows hot on Startup after the car has been sitting but then ice cold I believe mine is a blend air problem.
