intake air temperature V-12 (2008)

I have read about the timing retard and decided to hook up the phone with a bluetooth OBD. Outside ambient in FLorida today was 90F. Cruising steady at 50mph, Intake Air Temperature (IAT) reached 130 F. The timing showed -20 retarded. I was wondering what other people are getting. Speed seem to effect the temps little as it was similar at 65mph. Hard pulls climbed slowly.

I have read other threads and saw that some had good luck with the Johnson CM30 pump to replace the standard Bosch. I dont know if mine has ever been replaced so it could be the old 3 gpm pump in there.

I would like to hear from anyone that has gone down this road ahead of me. This car ( S600 ) has the M275.

I am currently having the same problem. Pulling tons of timing with my renntech tune and need to decide what pump to get. Will the newer 010 Bosch pump be sufficient with the renntech tune, or should one upgrade the pump AND heat exchanger?

I do not know the answer to that. What does Renntech say? I plan to swap my stock cooling pump for a Jonson cm30 as my next step. I dont plan to change out the intercoolers. However, I dont have plans for a HP increase at this point.

Not sure I can help. I have a non-chipped 2007 S600 and I replaced the OEM Bosch pump at 93K miles. I replaced it with the newer slightly upgraded OEM Bosch pump. In previous years, in the Washington DC swampy Summer (similar to your Florida weather), I would get intermittent codes for high intercooler temps. After the pump replacement, no codes at all.. I think the new pump was about $150.

guys - ICE cars work best when you get the correct AFR and burn it at the optimum point - once you introduce two massive turbos, extreme under bonnets temps and cyl bores that have a propensity to self destruct - the engine management needs to be set up by a grown up so it can try to last 200k miles

a 5 pence bodge up tune, by with-think-we-know-better - will push into the safety systems Mercedes created to stop pistons melting and stuff failing - sure on a cold damp morning before the car has reached melting point - a smidge more timing and a smidge more boost will feel peppier than Merc built....

but when ambient temps are high, and some one used 50% of its performance for 5 minutes the car starts getting hot and of course the engine management (before its been molested), will wind things back when temps and knock are starting to imped longevity

sure you can push it harder and sure you can buy a new engine next week -

Charge cooling working as designed?

Some fit an additional heat exchanger in front of the stack with a second charge cooling pump.

Water/Methanol injection is effective. Weistec makes a kit. Peter swears by it. It’s on my to do list.
