W221 S500 2006 COMAND NTG3 factory defaults everytime i start the car
Hello,
i have title problem. Everytime i start the car, COMAND have been resetted to factory defaults, also navigation not working.
when i buy the car, amp was broken, replaced it and everything works well. Amp has newer part number than the original amp. Then i get ”loading navigation” text on the navi tab. I suggest my HDD was broken and same time the resetting factory defaults every start started. Replaced HDD with this forum megacrazy instructions. Everything went well, but i still not get nav work and settings doesn’t save.
i removed yesterday previous owner video in motion box behind the COMAND and instered all wires to factory places, still no go. When i drive, COMAND works very well expect navi. I have updated almost all my control units, expect telematics (CD ordered already), instrument cluster and seat control units.
What i can do? I don’t have any ideas anymore.

Reflash firmware with the latest telematics cd. The image you guys are using for the HDD was made after I flashed to the latest telematics version...so that is most likely your navigation issue. Flashing will hopefully also solve your settings issue. If not, there’s probably other hardware related issues going on.

UPDATE to this topic. I have updated Telematics with latest available DVD from MB. Also reflashed whole COMAND using STAR ( Also updated all possible control units to latest available version, much better car now i say, little things improved) Now the settings issue is resolved and COMAND feels so much faster etc, no more factory defaults everytime i start the car.
I still have the maps issue, current maps version is -01. I need to take my new HDD out of the COMAND and format it, then try with blank HDD and latest maps DVD which i have already waiting. If someone have an COMAND image with europe maps, shoot me a pm. I have megacrazy´s image, but it´s USA version.
If someone interested to see changelog for latest telematics updates, i took a couple of pics of the list when updated telematics with STAR.

I solved this. Formatted the HDD, restored megacrazys USA image, put HDD back to Comand, insert europe maps dvd, screen shows USA 4.0 maps installed, replaced whole content with europe v19. Maps show immediately after maps update. Everything working now fine, lets’s see how long...
So,
if anyone have the same problems what i had on my topic start, here is the solution:
1. Update to latest available version of comand firmware with latest telematics dvd (i also updated every single control unit what can be updated with star diagnostics)
2. Take HDD out of comand
3. Buy new HDD and restore megacrazy’s image with macrium reflect software, shoot him a pm if u need the image.
4. Put HDD back to comand and insert your countrys map dvd (in my case europe)
5. Enjoy a working navigation with latest possible feature what you can have for this system

Now experiencing same issue not saving address info
I am now experiencing the same thing when attempting to save my home address and other addresses. I have 221 827 06 65 firmware on the entire MOST ring, and V15 North America maps. It didn’t appear to start doing this until the map update.
I also performed a flash of the TGW offline and it completed, however it reverted the Map database back a couple of versions, and the current one is no where to be found.
I suspect Becker has a way to restore these units, possibly straight from the telematics disc, but I do not know how to invoke it.
Removing the HDD would not be beyond my technical ability, but wonder if that is the “official” repair method?
