Replacing top rubber bushing on ABC struts

2007 S-65. The orange rubber busing on the top of my front struts is broken and crumbling. There are no ABC problems and the front struts are fine other than the deteriorated rubber.

I found some replacements online: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32449087692.html

Anyone tried using these? I would rather not open the hydraulics up and replace the entire strut when for the most part it is working

I ordered a set, but after well over a month they haven't arrived. In two days I'll be asking for a refund. If by some chance they ever do get here, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks a lot for letting me know.

I have given my car to my local Indy for replacement of my front control arms, and he informed me about the orange top rubber was crumbling, but my car has absolutely no ABC or suspension issues.

I think to replace the upper control arms, they did tell me, they would have to remove the strut, and I am afraid the act of removing the strut would worsen the deteriorating rubber, should I be concerned?

The bushings I ordered got here. I only wanted to use the top part to replace the small crumbling top piece shown in the top video. I did not want to tear apart the whole strut and replace both the upper and lower donut.

The replacement is not exactly like the original. The original is one piece, not two pieces, like the replacement. I only wanted to replace the top so I actually used a hot knife and cut the top small donut off the one-piece bushing that was on there after I removed the black cover

The top bolt came off easily with an impact wrench. I only did one side. I have 1000 miles on it since and it is doing fine. I will probably do the other side later this summer

Besides cosmetic, is there anything else going on? I have the crumbling too, but if it doesn't impact anything, why fuss with it?

Did you take the whole suspension out or just remove top four screws including one at the center?

I only removed the one center top screw with an impact gun.

The original bushings are one piece and the replacements are two piece. I cut the top crumbling part of the original bushing and replaced it with the top piece that came with the new ones.

I did not replace the part underneath the mounting flange.

its two piece rubber the small one will fit on top of the hat and join under the hat with the secound piece rubber, just make sure to have a marker and put a mark before you remove to put it back as it was, and pay attention if you have abc lines you want the to line up the lines as it was before, easy DIY job guys dont hasetate to do it. took me about 30 min for each side. the hard part was making the small rubber to fit inside the top hat. other than that it was easy job.

No. I only drove that car a month or so after that before it was rear ended and totaled though.

I guess I'd ask, why replace them? Are you having any issues? alignment, clunking? They were kind of corroded on my W221 S600 and it was never an issue for me, so I left em alone.

Hey Salman,

Did you have to remove the strut completely?

Thanks Auburn2. I brought the rubber to my mechanic and asked him to do replacement work, but he refused to do the work. I don't want to spend $2000+ to buy a new hydraulic suspension strut. I wonder if you need to take the strut out from the car to remove the central screw. Obviously, I don't have the capability to take the strut out of my car. But if it just needs to remove the center top screw out without taking the strut out, I guess that I can do it by myself. Did you take the strut out before you remove the center top screw?

When you take the center bolt out does it release the spring tension? If I remove the strut can I take the center bolt out without the strut coming apart?
