S65 W221 Clock Reset - no software upgrade needed for me

Hi,
S65AMG MY08
I was ready to do the software upgrade and had the download and the CD ready....
I can not find the post from another user however I would like to thank him very much for his post which is his hard work.
I am in Australia and was not sure how the factory approved new CD that I could blow would work for the southern hemisphere... and I stumbled on the post.

A short while ago (not even one month) my clock would register the right hours and minutes however would not take my GMT input to put it to Australian EST no daylight saving
It would let me enter all the information re date as well.... however would NOT accept it

The FIX ....
Turn Car off, I left it off overnight (however you might find that if it is off 30mins that it is good enough).
Next morning straight to the car do NOT start the car....
Tap the start button so that you can get straight into the settings to adjust the time... you might only have around 30 seconds or so to adjust the time
BUT it changed back for me.

It might be that the electronics has not had time to communicate with satellite to download info / position... I just dont know the reason..........so the other thing I did was put a towel over the antenna and a tin bean can on that and a 2gallon tin can over that..... I'm not joking.

just load the CD, polar bear did it as a global region fix for normal heat units (Japanese mkt gets different hardware)

phaffing around trying to make the two clocks behave is stupid. It can wrong again at any point if finds a latter satellite that does dates differently and swap back when it finds an old one an hour later, or change next daylight saving and or next time the battery is removed.

The car gets its data from satellites. They work on a 19 year cycle (WNRO). The cycle moved to the next 19 years phase and the car can no longer correctly interpret the data it receives. Whilst the GPS works the time and date on the car is confused, as is time of arrival if you are in a daylight saving area or travel in to one.

The CD takes 10 mins to run and fixes the car so its got 18 years of correct time and date left. FYI the service schedule relies on the time and date to provide the correct info, your fix doesn't cure that

If you've disconnect the battery your car is stuck in 2003, if you have never done that its at least 6 months off track.

so long as you have a real one and not a Japanese import (they have very different "comand" / entertainment hardware) and its running the last official telematics update it should go straight on.

as soon as you load, upon reboot, go check the date if its the day you did it, it worked

It is a factory delivered vehicle to Australia. In the Diagnosis Assistance System printout from the dealer is there some check that can be confirmed ? What is the name of the "Command" and what H/W S/W version do I need to check ?

I can see a line
COMAND
MB Number 2218700591
HW version 06.51
SW version 07.09
Diagnosis version 4/17
Serial number BE701171066223
FW number 0004426060
FW number (boot SW) 2214424360

A quick one, yest the battery was disconnected and it was stuck in 2003 until I did the "fast" adjustment without starting the car in the post above.
It has not changed since.

I would love to do the upgrade you suggest but just want to know that it will work for my Australian delivered car (southern hemisphere) and was a bit worried when you said different comand for Japanese which I would have thought would be our region for Asia / Pacific .

That's Genius Grant
The following details may be of assistance to anyone else with the same problem:
Recently had the boot battery fail and was therefore disconnected and replaced
$840 later (Battery was $610)
Date reverted to 2003 and Clock wouldn't set correctly
Had driven the car about 30 mins prior to reading your post
and it was parked underground so no GPS signal
No start button on my 2007 S350 so I just turned the key until the display illuminated without starting it
Then set the date and time and Voila back in business :-)))
Confirmed - IT WORKS!
Many thanks

no, cars built for the Australian market are normal W221s. probably exactly the same as UK / RSA spec. I already replied that your head unit is supported, did you do it yet?

only Japanese mkt ones are different - with massively different wiring looms and entertainment systems & on some models different bumpers or the boot lid, which can look very nasty

i am going to do it the right way as another guy posted and was totally right, it changed back, he was very helpful and even while I am in australia delivered it will work with my VIN and I will be doing the recommended worldwide upgrade that someone has worked diligently on to have adopted by mercedes in their absence of wanting to support older vehicle owners. Which is why I guess the forum exists !
