Multi Contour Seat Leak Hissing
So, my new-to-me 2012 S550 needs dynamic seat repair. Any seat adjustment through COMAND pumps up and immediately deflates and reverts to ZERO. Found some relevant threads but nothing too specific or conclusive.
I have spent an hour in WIS/EPC but cannot find "hose" diagrams for the seats. Below is the only image I could find that might be of any assistance to my issue specifically.
EVIDENCE:
I hear a hissing sound coming from underneath the driver seat bottom. I can also hear the pump right behind the passenger back seat running when I unlock and open the doors. The pump times out after 60 seconds to prevent pump damage, so I'm not worried about the pump burning out, but it bugs me that the system is malfunctioning. Does anyone know/have any experience with the components under the seat bottom? Is the tubing and connections (600, 602, 605) indicated in the photo the only pneumatic-related components that exist under the seat bottom? I suspect an air leak and am going to attack the most obvious indication of malfunction first. I'd like to get the Dynamic Seats working. The car only has 43k miles on it and everything else works great EXCEPT that the rear headrests do not drop, which I have found to be apparently related to the Dynamic Seat malfunction.
My plan is to unbolt the driver seat, lean it back to rest on the back seat, and inspect and repair with the seat in that position.
Any info on components inside/hidden within the seat bottom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Just found a good pic of the seat bottom. I bet my leak is coming from a broken line or the tee. The part is 460 in the diagram.

And here's a good reference for seat back components for anyone who might see this thread in the future. So long as the listing is up, anyway. 505 in the diagram.

there's a thread on here about 2 to 3 years old with pictures... search dynamic seat or something
the pump in the boot will wear itself out trying, hitting thermal trip in a 7 min cycle if u keep using the car (they are major money >$600 with a pump straight out of a $10 inflation pump from China)

I have the exact same issue as @Senecat . It failed suddenly while on a long drive. My car is going in to MB on Tuesday to have it fixed. I've been waiting on parts for about 4 weeks, as they needed to be shipped from Germany. I'm fortunate that my service contract is covering the bill....I think it is at $8000 so far. MB doesn't sell the individual parts, so most of the seat is being replaced, from my understanding. If I learn anything new later this week, I'll post here. If I did not have my service contract, I'd just buy a used part on Ebay.

It's not the seat bottom, I still get the hissing sound with the blue line capped. I'm timed out right now so waiting for the pump to come back online.

Ok so I found the leak. Should be a piece of cake. I just have to unbolt the seat, tilt it back and unwrap and replace a line. The line I'm pointing at is supply air from the compressor. I can hear the leak under the seat on the left side where the line routes, and when I disconnect the line from the module, the hissing under the seat stops and the air comes out of the connector. Everything else looks good. I'm off tomorrow so I'll get it apart, fix it then report back.

Did some more research while at work. Pumps all day long on eBay for $150. The same pump is used in practically every model since '07, so no big deal if that is on it's way out.

Thanks! I have wanted this car for years. I do not like the succeeding generation body styles. I have been looking seriously for a little over a year for this one. It's truly a gem. It's spec'd out exactly the way I wanted, and it appears to have sat in a garage for the last ten years. There was no price-haggling, just buy the damn thing! As soon as I noticed it, I was on it. They are getting ever so hard to find anymore, and with the used car market up 38% YoY, you can't, as a buyer, really afford to haggle with the price. When I went to pick this one up, the salesman said I was lucky, as there were literally tens of calls a day wanting to buy this car after I had secured it, they left the listing up on their site. Used cars right now are no longer a negative-yielding investment, they are literally appreciating at 38% yoy, and the market is not going to get any better any time soon. Take care of what you have, we are entering an era of scarcity!

I totally agree! You definitely lucked out especially with the year and mileage as well. Cars have gone up just like you said and it is hard to find anything decent these days. Especially with the options that you like. I also looked hard for mine and finally purchased one last year. It is a 2013 with 59K miles on it. It was a West Palm car and spent all its life in Florida till was bought by someone in Albany New York. Just like you I didn't argue on the price. Drove for two hours and bought it right on the spot. Don't mean to hijack your thread by the way lol but here is a pic of mine and also I just received a little present today so very exited 🙂
