What is Airmatic Compressor Mileage on W221?

Does anyone know typically how many miles to expect out of the airmatic air strut compressor on a 2013 S550 ?

Mine is fine but was thinking about replacing it before it goes out. Just to clarify, I'm talking about the little air compressor that provides air to the air shocks on the car.

it depends - they have a small filter that should be changed - if you have leaks or seized level sensors it will work harder - and it depends if you try to meet the test of 10 bar in 10 seconds (or whatever it is)

6 bar in 30 seconds is actually plenty for normal use - I met someone on their fourth suspension pump in 80k miles over 4 years from new - they bought another facelift one and next time they had the usual battery light fault on

you must remember its an S class- is supposed to be run on all the money stolen from the slaves - so its free if you're an authorised user

there are 3. 1 each for the front, the rear share 1. The front 2 are very easy to replace, the rear...I’ll let botus field that one.
my airmatic compressor is original with over 150k miles, probably wouldn’t be a terrible idea to replace it at this point

Maybe I can get some more miles/time out of mine. Dealer wants $575 for OEM compressor. I was thinking what a burden it'd be if it went out all of a sudden since there are no warning codes.

My car has 80k miles and the dealer just verified they've never replaced compressor. The car was dealer maintained since 2013 so maybe I'm thinking of replacing the compressor prematurely. Sometimes when I look at the car from the front, it will sometimes look like its leaning a little but can't really tell if the ground is down hill on that side. It can't be a bad strut because both fronts were replaced 2 years ago.

Yeah sometimes when we admiringly look at our cars we notice....just us admiring until.... something doesn’t look right.. must be something wrong....until we stop to think.
Simple experiment for you to try: Take a ruler or measuring tape and record distance from ground to bumpers on all 4 corners after you have driven for a while . Take frequent measurements before and after driving for let’s say 7 days and see what the data tells you. Might not be anything or it might be????

the rear level sensor is a nightmare to do - and the one that fails most to my limited knowledge

yes it was 4 pumps all OEM fitted to Merc stds... I guess its possible his was in that affected range when one of the rear shocks lose air as they scored the pipes when building the car - TIPS about that
You can just refurbish the vanes - and fit a new filter (its like a baby fuel filter) if you want to get all maintenanced up

I had one at 50k miles - the one that was doing 6 bar in 30 seconds well outside the standards - but sure it would do another 5 years no issues - if you live in a warm dry climate it doesn't do anything - pull the fuse and if you don't put 300lbs in the boot or rear seats it will stay where it should for 6 months

OK just for you - edits in capitals - I don't think it was needed but nothing better to do ....

the rear level sensor LINK ROD is a nightmare to REPLACE do - and ITS the one that fails most to my limited knowledge

yes it was 4 AIRMATIC COMPRESSORS pumps THAT FAILED all OEM fitted to Merc stds... I guess its possible THIS OTHER GUYS CAR his was in that affected range WHERE when one of the rear shocks lose air as MERCEDES they scored the pipes when building the car - MERCEDES RELEASED A TIPS DOCUMENT EXPLAINING HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE about that

You can just refurbish the vanes IN YOUR AIR COMPRESSOR - and fit a new filter (its like a baby fuel filter) if you want to get all maintenanced up FOR GOOD MEASURE

I had A NEW AIRMATIC COMPRESSOR one at 50k miles - IT WAS THE POINT I MENTIONED IN YESTERDAY'S FIRST REPLY, the one that was doing 6 bar in 30 seconds well outside the MERCEDES DIAGNOSTICS TEST standards - but I'AM sure it would do another 5 years no issues - if you live in a warm dry climate THE AIRMATIC COMPRESSOR it doesn't do anything - IF YOU WANT TO TEST THAT IDEA OUT pull the fuse and if you don't put 300lbs in the boot or rear seats it will stay where it should for 6 months
