Homelink Garage Opener

My homelink is inoperative. Do other forum members use this feature successfully? I'm wondering if the tech is just so old that it is not compatible with newer garage openers. If it should work, does anyone have suggestions for what to check/fix?

I got to replace the ‘magic mirror’ in the two-elemon E-55 which made it able to operate the garage door opener at our house which had the same vintage tech for garage door openers. My 221 S-65 was never able to open a garage door... same as the 222 S-65. Annoying. Follow all instructions and it just doesn’t work. Never an issue for her 2018 Odyssey or her current Toyota. No idea why.

You may need to try a repeater. It's not unusual for older Homelink transmitters to not be compatible anymore with newer garage door openers. All depends on the year of your garage door opener. At least going back to 2010 according to the owner's manual it does support garage door openers with rolling code, but if you have a very recent garage door opener with Security+ 2.0, then it might not work w/o a repeater.

John,
Do you design speakers by any chance?

check homelink website for compatibility for new door openers have special remote tech and require a special REPEATER that the homlink can talk to.
It will mount inside near the new door opener, and it sends signal to opener when received from Homelink.

seems the tech is going back to where these things work, and you do not need repeater

Thanks everyone. Good information. I'll try the repeater and see what happens. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice if it worked.

In general I have sometimes had issues programming Homelink. I think my E55 was very tricky but I got it to work. I don't remember if the S550 was tricky. I do remember that there are different ways to program depending on Homelink instructions, owner's manual and the garage door opener instructions. I found that I had to revert to another set of instructions in the cases where it was being stubborn. Does what you are attempting include holding up a working remote to the mirror and holding both buttons down?

Yes, I've followed the instructions closely like you describe, but no luck. Like most of us here, I've had many, many cars over the years, and usually have no problem getting openers synced up. I did buy the repeater mentioned by another poster here, and will give that a try in a few days when it arrives.

I did also want to mention that the E55 is a 2004 car and was controlling a ~2015 garage door opener. I think the stubborn opener was actually the other one, and is older than the car (still rolling code).
