Can anyone confirm whether or not MB requires a NEW control valve body when replacing a transmission?
After going to an indie MB mechanic with no luck, and a transmission shop, I took my car to the BIG GUYS... and as we all know, they want a Big Guy price
Fortunately MB said I can get my own Reman Tranny shipped to them but the control valve body has to be new to be coded to my Vin.
I have two part # from the dealership.

Both are described as a Reman Transmission
The first at almost 6k and the second at 900.00 however, as I said, it says Reman... Not new.
Any help will be appreciated.
Update: just spoke with MB parts dept.
that second part number is a core charge.
So they didn't list the price of the new valve body...
I'm assuming the technician listed the required parts needed for the repair, and if so...why wouldn't they list it? Just wondering if MB is trying to get me to spend money I don't need to bc all the trannys I've seen online come with the valve body.

What about the torque converter? When I ordered my reman 5 speed for my S600 it came without a new torque converter. I didn't want to use old anything and wanted all new or reman completely and all MB. My total cost was about $9600 installed and coded. Luckily, I had a warranty but the warranty would not cover the total costs. I paid about $4500 in cash in addition to what the warranty paid. Are you sure they didn't just use your old valve body?
They haven't replaced anything yet.
My understanding is the torque converter comes with the tranny.
The service advisor specified a "valve body" which he told me has to be "new" so it can be coded to my Vin#...
valve body - electro plate - conductor plate = the silly thing with the gear change actuator solenoids and chocolate speed sensors that they won't sell to members of the public - and has to be coded with dealer kit (or special friends know how to work around)

You'd think I could use the existing valve body from my current tranny.
Considering I'm getting the same transmission (same ID#)
depends how ugly the trans fluid had been for how long and how old the unit is - they drop dead from 7 year mark - part repairable.... safer to fit a newer better one should do 11 years - used to be a 2k job but they fail so much the price came down
I appreciate the information from everyone. All the threads I'm reading about transmission problems at "low milage" has me a bit gun shy on going with a "used" tranny vs. reman.
Ive found one with 53k on it for under 2k with shipping from a REMAN company, which you would think... they would open it up and inspect it etc. They may indeed do that. I haven't spoken directly with them yet.

Really all depends on how long you plan to keep the car. I love my 2007 S600 and when the 5 speed trans failed in 2020, I wanted MB parts all around. The reman trans is as smooth as my original without any issues in the last two years or so. Several long trips of 1000 miles each and car performed well. My advice is buy all MB parts and use a technician who has done it. My reman trans was actually located in Los Angeles and was shipped here. I am not really comfortable buying a trans off of ebay to save a few bucks, My experience with ebay is you get exactly what you pay for.

I just took a look. They do seem to have a real Mercedes business. I noted they had reman ABC struts which are hard to find and they were reasonably priced. They are based in Indiana so you might get some references (I never got bad reference from a mid-Westerner). They also have an 800 phone. Maybe call them and ask if they can also refer you to an experienced technician for the coding.

If you're looking for Reman air struts, another place you can try is
rebuildmastertech.com out of Florida.
I got a pair of front air struts from them and a compressor.
the data the card would tell you the one they fitted when they built it - then when it comes to buying another there's usually a few million updates - mostly they "upgrade" them when they see they aren't failing fast enough

well another site says its grey - so I suspect your vehicle has been changed or that's NOT your vehicles chassis number (aka of circumspect origin) - they are not normally wrong as they steal the data straight of Merc servers....
