Drove it a little more today.

That characteristic Mercedes soft initial tip in is still there, which means the throttle is not ridiculously jumpy or something. But once you get through that tip in, it's very responsive. Basically if you want it smooth, just be gentle with it and there is no issue. As soon as you need some torque, just press a little more and it goes. All you could ask for, really.

I think these lists are fabulous. I never would have deciphered this stuff. BOTUS you have everything on here except the Gefiltefish setting. Many thanks.

So curve 2 was supplied on vehicles using 5.5 litre M273 engine - and reintroduced in a clearance R class R 500 in the between years 2009 to 2012

The 2005 251 R-Class, got the then new 5.5-litre V8 motor with the R 500 and R 63 AMG models, but were withdrawn from the market in 2007. It came back with the facelift of 2010 reintroducing the R 500 but it was not offered in the North American market. They continued in long wheelbase form with the R 350 4MATIC and R 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC using V6 engines only in 2011 and 2012

ha - so the CL 216 never got a throttle pedal - ummm... I guess they just put the S class map on the 2 door car

What's your theory about the difference given the applications?

I don't know - its all a bit strange

I guess manuals having its own curve is sensible - you need consistency to judge bite point and throttle
A lazier pedal offsetting torque increase from mechanical advantage of a TC at low RPM makes sense - but now we have millions of gears and powerful engines (negating any logic ????)
How does the curve relate to the morphing insanity of adaptive lunacy ???? https://www.mercedesmedic.com/reset-...-instructions/
Why is there pedal curve 4 .... 2 door cars / shorter cars / lighter cars - or we have no idea and just played a bit when making them ???
Does fiddling confuse other safety or lengevity elements of how they made the car

Read my ECU coding out of DAS for fun.

- Vehicle speed regulation. Meaning, speed limiter disabled? Well, I have that OE Tune on it and I have seen almost 140 mph with a 130 mph limiter, so I guess this flag basically controls whether it even cares about the limit. That would explain my results.
- Speed increase air conditioning. I think this might raise engine RPM during A/C use which is interesting. It's off here and it looks like it's off in BOTUS's car, too.
- Load jerk damping. This is one of the settings that I had BenzNinja code to off, which significantly improved throttle response especially in certain scenarios.
- Torque limit stuff. Set to inactive. See previous comment.
- Torque increase. I think this is set to factory but I forgot what it might do.
- Accelerator pedal curve. This is set to factory and I think this means characteristic #1.
- Low fuel grade. Says yes. I don't know what this means. I will have to investigate. I could find NOTHING in the ECU regarding learned knock retard stuff but this suggests it thinks I am running insufficient octane fuel. I have heard knock on certain occasions with this OE Tune so maybe that is related.

Accelerator pedal curve(s) Characteristic 1.5 ???

knock is so dangerous you don't learn or adapt for it you STOP it that instant - and measure and adjust live all the time

decided the bit in quotes isn't going to work for you... (where I say Octane in this first paragraph below is to avoid finding the correct technical term for a fuel's normal burn speed)

A petrol vehicle's ability to spot and adjust for lower or higher quality fuel is not 'knock correction'. The vehicle has a method to ascertain Octane, but these days I guess could optimise or indeed have additional maps for ethanol rot fuels... It seems that capability can be enhanced - AKA set to think rubbish is the new normal - using the element you query in your post about 'low grade fuel'. I'm guessing the Octane sensing uses the same sensors, but its not a knock adjustment - rather giving the vehicle a kick all the time to do something different...

'knock' is a sudden violent explosion of the fuel usually when put under a high stress engine load condition - and is often in play for only a few milliseconds (on a std vehicle using products its meant to have in it).

Whereas crap fuel with lower than normal Octane, I guess is noticed straightway at engine start up (by those very same knock sensors) - rather than try to adjust there and then continuously for knock - which it will struggle to achieve due to 'the risks' of operating with substandard fuel. Instead it says to the engine ECU - the moron's put crap in the tank... don't temporarily tweak the ignition curve - swap ignition maps to a moped version, (and will do this all the way till it has no lower ignition maps to use), its one reason different markets get different base maps...

That thought process - explains how you could do it with equipment fitted on modern engine management systems, and for a bike I owned that was designed to run 98 or higher - it 'instantly' changed when I put 99 Octane in it for the first ever time (from 97 that was previously highest available at the time). It literally upon start up, sounded and idled like like a very different vehicle. And within 10 yards of pulling away I could feel it had a lot more power everywhere... the gains felt like a 20% tune up in less than 1/4 of a millisecond after start from filling the tank...

If you delve inside the code of an engine map (say with WIN OLS) where you can load 'the map', and look at weird 3D graphics of the insanity - you'll see there is literally vast quantities of strange stuff going on in there - way more than you'd find overdosing on magic mushrooms for a week...

It's what I would call light knock, probably only detectible to folks who know what it sounds like. I wanted to see if there was a knock retard history adaptation just to get an idea but I didn't find any. I use US 93 octane exclusively. The light knock I sometimes hear is at lower RPM under heavy load. I can't stress enough - it is very subtle, not loud clanking that sounds like the engine will fall out. If the radio is on, I wouldn't hear it. There is a chance I am not hearing knock, but my trained ear says that's what it is.

Full disclosure: I have tuned engines before, so I know all about how timing, knock retard and general engine control parameters work.

On 90s GMs, there was a "low octane" timing map that would be invoked in circumstances where repeated knock (and thus knock retard) was needed. Eventually it would surmise that you must be using a lower octane fuel than you should be, so it goes ahead and uses a more relaxed spark table, rather than continually just fighting each occurrence. My understanding is at a new tankful, it would give the proper timing table a chance again. Some knock and spark retard here and there is not grounds for using this low octane table, btw.

So, my thought was perhaps that's what "low fuel grade" means. Could be a learned thing. OR, it is a hard coded thing but I still don't know what it means. Maybe it means NOT using E85. But that is a very strange way to word that, if so.

I also noticed "RON correction" which might be simply enabling the ability to detect general octane levels (based on knock sensor performance and trends). I am just guessing though.

we just wrote the same thing.... although I think the speed vehicle's do all this has increased a lot versus how you pitch it

I don't like the sound of the 'knock' you are describing - does it say yours is a 4x4 ? if so that might be part of it... modern Traction control (and indeed my experience of how well my rear drive one manages this) might allow a 4x4 to try and place more grunt on the road.. so where my car its saying give up the grips gone and the engine gets an easy life - a 4x4 might be saying come on engine give it some more, all the way till it complains ?

another thought as the 4x4 might be for up a mountain and or strange parts of the world where rubbish fuel is 'normal' is it set to be more conservative on its base map ?

Mine is not set to use low grade fuel

I guess the colloquial term that would normally be used to describe what I think I am hearing is pinging. At least on my side of the pond. It's not all the same in terms of severity.

Hello Kevm14 y Botus

Hello good Morning. Botus and Kevm14. I wanted to ask you a question. This encoding is only possible with vediamo or dts monaco??? I ask this because today with my xentry/das with which I have coded many things in my car without any problem. Today when trying to deactivate these two options Lastschlagdaempfung and Momentenbegrenzung I got an error. It won't let me do the coding very strange. I did it with the car without starting and it gave me an error. then with the car started and the same thing. I tried doing other encodings to see if it was a xentry/das error and I can encode without problem. but I can't disable these two options. what am I doing wrong. ???? It is only possible with monaco and and vediamo. ????? Or am I missing something in my xentry/das???? . It's the first time I can't code something in my car. Can you please help me. As always, I appreciate your help. Receive cordial greetings from Spain. thank you

it appears certain iterations of Merc kit is either simpler to use (old pre 2012) or some stuff needs the developer mode enabled which lets you get as stuff you won't understand and lets you really destroy the car fully

I found mine in developer mode where its all in the wrong language - but kevm14 and Benzninja look to have found it in the normal children's mode - where they handily write it in English (or local language - where supported) - maybe I didn't try hard enough

I do see certain pop ups where it isn't behaving within children's mode now and then (its quite offensive when it does that)

I don't know enough if the ME9.7 needs high level access (maybe....) my kit has the DOIP multiplexer, what's yours ?

TRY another look about - AND don't forget playing in driveline related stuff really needs battery support - low volts and introducing bugs here is not so clever

Don't ever write to the engine ECU with it running...

Botus

@Oderfla Does vediamo or dts monaco launch at all? I have the BenzNinja suite of software and on occasion have had Peter to redo the key that unlocks the programs that stop loading for some reason. I know the software is very temperamental to any environmental changes, such as a Windows update.

time for some lunacy BMW put in bike maps ? for the egle eye's check the vertical scrollbars... it goes on like this for hours and hours - is it any wonder most remaps are quick nips and tucks on fuel and ignition curves - I don't think anyone knows what's really going on

In the end I think I will be left with the desire to codify these two options that allow you this improvement in the accelerator in our cars. Today I tried the coding again with my XENTRY/DAD and with my voltage stabilizer. It won't let me save the coding. So I understand that you have to have Vediamo or Monaco and a high level to do this operation. And since I do not have these programs and I have never used them, in the end I cannot test this improvement. Look, I have coded many things in my car with xentry/das with developer mode and I thought that I would never get an error when coding any parameter. Now I see that there will indeed be many things that will not be possible with xentry/das. only with vediamo and monaco and a high level. Anyway, once again thank you as always for sharing your experiences and the improvements you make to our cars. a cordial greeting.

FWIW I haven't heard the pinging in a while now. Is there a knock-related data PID somewhere that I can't find?
