Abs /esp light on , when backing up only and braking
The light goes on intermittently when I back up slow and depress brake pedal , once car is shut off , and restarted , light is on but drive for 5 min and it goes off , never comes on in forward driving , only when backing up and intermittently, codes don’t show anything , could this be rear abs sensors or low pads on rear ? No other issues with hard steering or anything, just the light . Anyone with similiar scenario

does it give a message in the cluster ? - check manual for Pad wear warning vs ABS / ESP teddy throwing contest....
put decent diagnostics on the car and check wheel speed readings... if one or more look strange, sensors or reluctor ring may be broken / corroded
you could have searched and posted thoughts on a established thread after learning about likely points first - this method usually gives new owners a clue as to the fault and the naming nomenclature in current use...

Ah intermittent wiring problems suck bigtime. I have it too on mine.
If you are very patient and have a patient friend, put the car on a 4-post lift, let the friend start the car an put it in drive or reverse (handbrake AND brakes on!).
Then wiggle every cable and connector that you can find that is related to the brake system.
Wiggle and wiggle until an error shows up.

car age, mileage and condition?
the sensors die but the cars are getting old and reluctor rings might be falling off the drive shafts too (like they do on BMWs)

forward or backwards doesn't really matter the brakes and the ABS operates the same in either direction
you could confirm if you are seeing a big orange text message in the center of the cluster screen - and what it says !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like i suggested hours ago
