if it leaked that bad you lose oil - pistons going up and down tend to pump air out not suck it in - investigate the rest of the engine breather - many like to fit a new separator at the back of the engine as the miles increase

on the floor or burning out the exhaust - big difference
if its that out the exhaust - that's not too much if high miles - electroplated bores are a sick joke - and Merc make some of the most useless fragile coatings used by any brand

that little oil used you likely won't see or smell it being burnt - but its is more than ideal, and again points toward worn electroplated bores that will make the car breath more heavily and it pushes stuff past gaskets and seal...
do a compression test - I believe you can get Xentry to do a pretend one - but of course that’s nothing like a real one

The Xentry one is done with ignition on, brake and gas pedals fully depressed, and running the ignition(trying to start the car) for about 6-10 seconds. Odometer is at 201000km
