Olderst Car mag in the world - Top 50 best used cars

not a single Merc made the list

seems to be going back over what's been out there last 10-15 years - usual stuff you'd expect - Tesla, BMWs across the board, Golf, MX5

Autocar is a weekly British automobile magazine published by Haymarket Media Group. It was first published in 1895 and refers to itself as "the world's oldest car magazine".

In 1988 Autocar absorbed the rival magazine Motor, with which it had done battle on the newsstands since 1903. From the 7 September 1988 issue the magazine became Autocar & Motor. It reverted to Autocar for the 21 September 1994 issue

you're missing part of the picture - they mean vehicles worth owning for various reasons -

the world runs on the toyota land cruiser
the five series BM is all the car you need (if a saloon type large family car is in the frame)
the Honda in question is the electric version based on the honda that started it all - if wanted a real car the last NSX was way better than all the other junk peddled by F L and M

their online stuff is NOT the magazine

how's this - 50 years old - this very special version (homologation car for rallying - proper engine and real rear suspension) was $4000 new just sold with only 25k miles for $375,000

probably the best one they mention (pick is winners [I've shown] within respective classes - e.g. the big tesla and the 5 series were in the same class - sleepers)

an Audi I wouldn't even spit on

How old used cars do this ”article” look at? I bet just a few years old.

If you look at “real” used cars 10+ years old half of the cars on the table would have rusted away but MB cars would not have.

It is also bogus that BMW with the serious reliability issues makes the list but MB does not.

Almost sounds MB is not on the list because there are so few on the road due to the purchase price that in some European country is much higher than other brands, like BMW.

reliability stats (for up to 5 years old cars) have changed dramatically in last few years, BMW last two year's surveys, now making in to top ten most reliable (I find it hard to see how they changed that much) - Merc last ten years in bottom 40 with the also rans

reading between the lines I think they discreetly left Merc off as they are becoming seriously troublesome across the board

having another play trying to make the Speed Dependent Volume behave on my car - and getting nowhere, as has been the case for 6 years - on the Amp / Tuner in the boot under - using Xentry instead the word "Fault Codes" listed as the second option - Instead it says "Fault Codes No VRV"

with no clue what that random acronym might mean on an old car, I typed it up on the internerd and was bombarded with lots of searches about German car reliability - so its not just me with that view..... for example

as everyone here loves them so much - it did make me giggle when I came across Autocar's first full road test of the model S in an 12 year old edition
Had you asked us 10 years ago (in 2003) for our bet on which manufacturer would be the first to introduce a viable, fast, practical and competitively priced all-electric luxury saloon to the UK, we would have looked to Germany or Japan, or even South Korea, for a credible tip. The fledgling upstart from Palo Alto in the US, only incorporated in 2003, would not even have been a blip on the radar. But within a decade, Tesla has gone from CEO Elon Musk’s brainchild to deadly serious player
and they eulogized at pretty much the entire car https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review...el-s-2013-2021

on its 10th birthday they got a clapped out one - with 260,000 miles and did a road test on that https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/f...-tesla-model-s
and it really is hard used. This car has been owned by Tesla from the off and used by its engineers to travel between Supercharger sites, racking up nearly 260,000 miles on the original lithium ion nickel-manganese-cobalt battery, not to mention a few scuffs, scrapes and bumps around the bodywork’s extremities.

So, in hindsight, was the Tesla Model S a landmark moment? Absolutely. And then some.

Our tester’s words, printed in these very pages back in 2013, when we put an early, left-hand-drive Tesla Model S up against the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide – and crowned the Tesla the winner.

From the article "German cars are way more costly to repair, making them less reliable." How does cost of repair make a car unreliable? Article is just trying to generate income by catching people's attention! Did you know that these bloggers get paid by their advertisers based on the number of hits that they get? He also states that Mercedes vehicles have rust issues - what bull****!! I live in the US Upper Midwest where they heavily salt the roads in the winter and have yet to see an MB with rust that's less than 30 years old.

because many would either not bother to do certain jobs due to cost, or would work outside the franchised dealer network, where software updates, procedures, processes followed etc. like torques settings not used and parts of lesser quality

One thing people haven't considered is that manufacturers pay these publications, and the so called journalists who fabricate the nonsense that they produce, so there's very little that can be taken at face value. For example, when the current S Class was launched, everyone raved about the rear seats but slated it for not being this or that, yet no one says a word about the trim falling off a £90k Tesla if you slam the doors. Why? Because Tesla pay them not to say anything negative, whereas MB are like, " Here's our new S Class what do you think?"

Similarly, why are there so many Chinesium cars on the road all of a sudden? It's not because they're any good. It's because they pay for positive reviews or they sue the people who publicly give honest ones. People read the over hyped corporate marketing ****, believe every last word and by the time they get the thing home and realised that everyone from that "nice chap off the telly box" to the salesman, or more likely delivery driver, that handed them the keys and paperwork all lied to them. Then it's too late.

JayEmm did an interesting video piece about this very issue and some of the people he called out for selling their journalistic ethics includes some big names in the industry such as Chris Harris and Johnny Smith.

2025 reliability stats for cars up to five years old - Merc in the same place as they were last year

in once class "executive" - lower down the food chain than the 5 series E class category

best - an Audi with a nicer badge

disappointing
