Replacing a light bulb

The patient has a 2008 W221. Does anyone have a service interaction? Does anyone know how to replace the W5W parking light bulbs in the front headlights? They're located on the edge of the headlight, and with the M273 engine under the hood, there's not much access.

Can you reach down behind the headlight housing and reach the sockets, they twist off counter clockwise?

If not the manual seems to say to remove the front sections of the wheel well liners to reach them.

From the top under the hood, in my opinion, there's no way to reach and remove the bulb with the M273 engine running at full throttle. I don't know about others. So, you'll essentially have to remove the wheel arch and access it from below. Thank you very much for the great instructions, buddy.

Tough job on that model. You'll likely need to remove the front wheel and the inner fender liner to get proper access to the back of the headlight housing from the side. Trying to reach it from the top is nearly impossible.

Well, I see that it's completely impossible to do it from the top when it comes to the parking lights. I replaced the xenon bulb from the top, and there's not much room, but I managed somehow. But the parking light bulb is so close to the edge of the lamp that I think you can only reach it from the bottom. Even a Chinese or Japanese person wouldn't be able to get their hand in from the top.

With the wheel well liner off it may be a good time to replace the fog light bulbs if they havent been replaced in awhile.

there is almost no access even with the wheel arch liner out the way - the silly bulb holder is so tight to turn yet there is almost no ability to get your hands around it to twist - the idea is very simple but time consuming

wheel off
front half of arch liner out
twist stupid black bit 90 degrees anti-clock wise

these work without bulb failure issues and match the xenon lights less badly https://auxito.com/products/194-168-...3ae67b17&_ss=r

I want to do it exactly as you wrote. Take off the wheel, tilt the wheel arch and try to replace the bulb somehow.

you can't tilt it - too many fixing to undo .... even fully undone it requires a warming up - or a hot day to allow it to flex and manipulate out the way easily

the next bit will keep you busy - so much junk in the way - unless you want to mangle the black thing and get grips on it

So I have to remove the wheel and the entire wheel arch instead of bending it to get to the bulb?

you’ll never mange it - or you child's hand will have no skin left and would never have the strength to twist the bulb holder off

when we say no room - we mean none at all

So what's left is removing the entire lamp? To replace one stupid little bulb. The German didn't think this through to provide any access.

of course they thought it through - they said these cars are owned by rich criminals - lets steal lots and lots of their money with ridiculous labour costs - boys design it to go wrong and make it hard to work on we'll get rich

and they did....

Are we talking about the parking light? If so, I used a long needle nose pliers to reach in and change that bulb, of course with the liner/wheel removed.

Today I tackled it and replaced the left and right by removing the wheel, simply tilting the wheel arch and grabbing it easily with pliers. So, it's doable and not difficult at all.
