$227,000

My question. The passenger rear seat - with the reclining seat and foot rest. I sat in the back seat there - and reclined my seat - and pushed the front passenger seat up all the way to the front. I then extended the leg / foot rest to the maximum stretched position. I sat normally in the seat.

There's NO room for my legs. Zero. They don't lay straight - they are bent at a serious angle with the bottom of my shoes hitting the back of the front passenger seat.

For myself ( i am 5 10) would not be able to sit back there with my legs outstretched.

What about yours?
Hi Chucky300,

Was it Mocha Black with Nut Brown interior? That color combo is close to my car but the Auburn Brown is so much deeper and richer.

I've have often thought the same thing as you are saying, but haven't tried it out yet.

I will test it this weekend and see how I fit. I know my wife, who is 5'9", was able to sit in the back comfortably with her legs stretched, and not hitting the back of the front seat.

You are correct in that it does not fully recline. I think it might actually be better if one does not recline the backrest too much, when you use the foot rest. Might be more comfortable.

Will let you know what I find out this weekend.

I must have been doing something wrong then because I am only a bit taller than your wife - by one inch. And the way I was sitting - I seriously could not sit with my legs stretched out comfortably. They had to considerably bend at the knee joint.

Maybe I didn't have the seat right - although I thought I did.

The vehicle I saw was the following:

2015 MERCEDES-BENZ S 65 AMG in Manhattan, New York for sale
$226,925
Vehicle Specification
Model Year: NEW
Exterior: Designo® Mocha Black
Interior: Nut Brown/Black Exclusive Nappa Leather

Interesting that this car's production was completed on June 3, 3014, so it has been around and for sale since July of 2014.

Surprised it has not sold. I would have thought in NYC, this car would have sold rather quickly.

What is going on in this market with these higher end cars?

Might just be due to no one wanting to drop quarter million on an S class. Not sure.

Can get S63 with 4matic now. S65 doesn't make as much sense.

Gorgeous car - but would you spend another 60,000 on top of YOUR car....for an engine and brakes? Your car is identical in every feature - every option on your car is in the S65.

(Literally....its just an engine we are talking about now). $60,000 for an ENGINE and brakes.

It is actually more than $60,000 because my car has the custom interior, and this car has a standard interior. If you take away the extra $15,000 to $20,000 for my custom interior, we are talking approximately $150,000 vs. the $225,000, so closer to $75,000.

That is why I made the decision I did. Also, I wanted the smoother, more luxurious ride, as opposed to the stiffer, more sportier ride.

Also, I suppose it is a little more than just the engine and brakes, but it is basically all enhanced suspension and performance items. With the exception of the leather roof liner, the interiors are exactly the same. You also get the fancier exterior chrome and carbon fiber exterior enhancements with the S65.

Maybe if I was 25 years younger, I would have made a different choice, but not at this point in my life.

Its just a tuned version. Not a completely different one.

Engine, Brakes and a tuned suspension is quite awesome, but not $75,000 awesome in my opinion.

They don't plan to sell many of them so they have to price it as such I guess.

MB Manhattan is also very slim on pricing, hint at wanting more than 1-2% off and you'll never hear from the salesperson again.

Perhaps I missed it, but I never recall hearing about a chauffeur driving your car LM, just you. Unless you or your wife are being chauffeured in your car, WHEN do you sit in your Executive seats? I like to load my cars up with all the options that I will use. I think the Executive Seating Pkg is an amazing option, but I always drive my own car, my wife always sits in the front, so unless I can see how the Executive seats would benefit my 3 year old granddaughter who's child seat is usually in the rear, I can't see much point to ordering the package. How do you use it? Just curious.

You are correct. I do drive my own car, so we would rarely, if ever, use this option ourselves. We had some friends over and were showing them how the seats worked, so my wife sat in the seat, while we showed them how that function worked.

Frankly, I don't think we will ever use many of the options in the car, but I have, for years, always gotten my cars with every single option that was available.

Just something I like to do.

That's a great answer. If I ever win the lottery, I'd like to order a new Porsche with every single option, right down to the leather covered cigarette lighter, even though I don't smoke.

Thanks for indulging my curiosity and Merry Christmas!

My dad was the same way every time he ordered a new Cadillac (never settled for a lot vehicle, and replaced every two years) when the sales manager (never dealt with salesmen until they were assigned to close out the deal) would go through the options list he would sit back and simply say in his Brooklyn accent - “put it in”.

I'm guessing that you are talking in the 1950's-1970's when ordering a Cadillac was a magnificent experience. Just consider the color combinations: from a white exterior with a bright blue interior to a yellow exterior with a bright green interior to a black exterior with a bright red interior. Continental Kit? (The current S Class needs one!). Spotlights? Air conditioning? Sedan De Ville, Coupe De Ville, Eldorado, Fleetwood Broughm, Biarritz? How about a convertible? AND, it was difficult to order a car that had an MSRP over $6,000.00 or so. Of course, minimum wage was $1.25 an hour, but who's counting? Now, most all of us here, lust after cars that are available in pretty much "any color, as long as it is" a shade of "black." All this progress and we are back to the Model-T era! Your dad must have been a hell of a guy! Merry Christmas!

I had that same experience, but mine was on Long Island. I remember that my dad turned to the Lincoln Continental in the days when they were really differentiating. I remember loving the Cadillac, but when Lincoln Continental changed their doors to what are now called "suicide doors", I thought they were really very cool, and glad we had the Lincoln. I still loved those Cadillac fins.

Indeed, in our neighborhood there was always that rivalry between Cadillac and Lincoln but the majority of guys down at dad’s social club and all my uncles preferred Cadillac.

Sorry for hijacking thread, Holiday season has me feeling a bit nostalgic. Happy Holidays everyone!

You didn't hijack the thread, but I will: just read where Cadillac will offer a 200 mph sedan. (http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/...ntcmp=features). Gee. That's great. Too bad they can't build a big, plush, comfortable, rear drive sedan to compete with the likes of MB, Audi, BMW, etc. The market that they pretty much had sewn up in the 50's & 60's, they can no longer compete in. Their answer: build a car that goes 200 mph. Great. Just what the world needs, yet another car with capabilities that virtually nobody will use. Don't even get me started with Lincoln, who found it necessary to DROP the only Big Three car that even attempted to compete, the Towncar. If you want a pick-up, American is the way to go. The luxury sedan market belongs to the Fatherland.
Merry Christmas.

I posted previously, pictures taken of my car by xxGenericSNxx. He did such a great job.

The other day he sent me this picture of the brand new Lexus, which is taken at the exact same location we took our pictures.

Guess this is a popular spot.

Even though I have had new MB sports cars for decades, my daily drivers from 1993 through 2011 were Lexus LS models. Then I got a 2013 S550 and I was hooked. I was hooked for two reasons: first, Lexus pretty much ignored their top line sedan and let it get stagnant. Second, when they did "update" it they put their truly hideous "spindle" grill on it. The spindle grill is some idiot's idea of giving the Lexus line an identifiable persona. To anyone with any eye for design or even a sprinkling of good taste, these spindle grill treatments are, at best, a bad joke. I mean, could YOU drive around in this clownmobile with a straight face? After owning EIGHT new Lexus LS models and being one of their strongest cheerleaders, I am sorry to say that the folks at Lexus have truly lost their way and are floundering like a fish washed ashore in the giant tsunami that hit Japan. Just before ordering my new S550, I thought I should give Lexus another shot. The current LS460L, which used to favorably compare to a new S, no longer is even in the same league. Instead, Lexus is trying to "out BMW" BMW, while MB is eating the lunch at that table as well. Merry Christmas.

My mother had a '67 Lincoln Continental with those doors. She was going through what I call her "turquoise" period, so the car was turquoise (not sure of the factory name of the color) with black interior. She also decided that she needed a washer, dryer and refrigerator to match the car.

Happy New Year to everyone. The best for a wonderful 2015.

I am not sure if anyone noticed, but on my custom 314 Coupe steering wheel, the stitching on the airbag came in the wrong color.

As you might know, on all the S class sedan steering wheels, the black airbags come with contrasting stitching. The three contrasting colors are nut brown, light grey and porcelain, depending on your interior seat color. The black airbag does not come with black stitching on the sedan. The light colored airbags, come with matching stitching. This is all done to match the stitching that is on the center console and seats, which depending on the interior, is either contrasted or not.

Since I eliminated all of the contrast stitching in my car with my custom order, I wanted the stitching on the steering wheel airbag to match the leather color. All black leathers would have black stitching and all auburn brown leathers would have auburn brown stitching.

As you can see from the picture below on the right, the airbag came with contrasting light grey stitching, which is one of the standard colors with black airbags. I had to re-order the black airbag with matching black stitching, which you can see in the left picture. Now, everything matches and my car does not have any contrast stitching anywhere, as originally planned.

The one problem is that the dealer "dinged" the aluminum trim on the steering wheel while changing out the airbag. I was not a happy camper, since I specifically asked them to be careful.

Thankfully, this part comes as a single item and can be replaced by itself, without a new steering wheel. I found a post on this forum, where a gentleman changed out the steering wheel controls and airbag on his C class, and you can see the same trim piece that got ruined, when they changed out my airbag.

It is a special order part coming from Germany, around the middle of next month. I'll be happy when it is replaced and back to new condition!

Matching black stitching on the new airbag, below to the left, and contrasting light grey stitching on the original airbag, below to the right.

Below, is a trim piece, similar to the one on my S class being replaced. This one is from another forum member, on a C class steering wheel, where the controls and airbag are being upgraded.

Love your build! I do want to find out how you got the 3 spoke steering wheel rather than the new design? I would love to have that. Please let me know. Thanks!

Great update as always LovinMercedes! Now the airbag will be all matching.

I've got a black leather with black stitching 231 SL airbag sitting in a box at my house waiting to go onto my upcoming E which will replace its plebian black plastic airbag with no stitching.

I was able to get the 314 3-spoke steering wheel because my car was a custom ordered car with a PA4 custom interior.

As you know, it is not a regular option on the 2015 S class sedans. It is available on all the S Coupes in the US, and in Europe, on the S sedans when you have either an AMG car, or the AMG sports package.

It is still unknown if it is going to be available on the 2016 S class sedans in the US.

If you wanted to pay for it, you could order the steering wheel, in the US, from the parts department as an S coupe 3-spoke steering wheel. It comes in all leather or wood and leather. You would have to order the steering wheel and the airbag.
