I may try the system, once that "new car" aroma dissipates. To me, the smell of a new car is just wonderful. I know that MB will never offer it, but wouldn't it be great if a third party producer came up with that perfect "new car" scent? It would probably result in a few folks keeping their older ride a bit longer and the dealers would hate it. And, it would have to be "MB" new car scent. I had a new BMW 850i back in the 90's and that new car smelled like crap--literally! Luckily, it also stranded me a number of times and BMW took it back.

Air Balance Refill
The original bottle lasted almost exactly one year (15,000 miles) in my GLC300. I set it on the minimum setting. I was able to remove the top of the original bottle after cutting off the clear tape and unscrewing the top (takes a little effort). I cleaned the bottle with alcohol and then refilled with the contents of one of the sample fragrances. The samples are in small plastic spray containers. I had to use a small knife to get the top off. After I use all of the samples, I'll decide which I like best. The Air Balance option works very well I'm glad I ordered it. The scent is very unobtrusive and the ionization feature keeps my GLC odor free. Negative ions are also reputed to kill viruses and bacteria.

I'm going to have to try putting my own fragrance in my vehicle, although I do enjoy the one that came with my car. I really like the air balance package in mine.

Just got our glc with the air balance option a few months back. I researched this a bit and have noticed others who have this option received a bottle of fragrance and samples, does anyone know if this was given to them or located somewhere specifically in the vehicle? Or was it purchased seperately? Thanks!

My 2017 model came with the 4 vial sampler in the boot (trunk), under floor compartment with the manual folder and security wheel socket and spare bolts. No standard bottle in sight, unfortunately.

I kind of accepted the dealer's explanation at the time and I was elated to finally get my hands on the car, but a couple of months later I'm a bit peeved now, that, after buying their luxury model and the Air Balance option, it didn't come with *at least* one full bottle. All 4 would have been classier 😉

Thanks for the info! No samples or anything that I could find but that's ok. Im visiting the dealership soon and will probably buy a vial there (if in stock). I do agree at least one would have been nice though

FWIW I picked up my new 2017 on Tuesday and both the full-unopened bottle and the 4 vial sample were in the glove-box. I guess it just depends on the dealer?

That proves it I guess. Which one did you get and does it smell pleasing in the car? ;-)

I thought I saw on the MB website that the fragrance canister is for sale for 130.00 and is non-refillable.
Has anyone had any experience with the 2018 canisters? I tried to open mine but it seemed to be well sealed.
Maybe I didn't try hard enough!

Where are people getting fragrances from to refill their bottles? I'm all for DIY, but I also remember a MB tech note about some car air fresheners causing damage to the plastics inside the car. Indeed, my own mother's C320 has quite a bit of cracked plastic on the center console bin where she used to keep air fresheners.

Anymore input on DIY fragrance replacement would be appreciated. Can't remember where is read some caution about oil vs alcohol based scents.

Is Fireside Mood the default? What other scents have people tried, and how do they like them?

Oh, BTW, as far a "new car smell" goes, read this,

I poured some Tommy Bahama Cologne in my empty bottle and re-inserted it. Works like a charm.

Thats so strange, I just refilled mine with Tommy Bahama too, it was the Maritime colone. I just sprayed it into the empty jar and screwed the cap back on. It's a large bottle and the level after filling the jar only went down less than a quarter, so like 20 bucks vs over 100 for the real stuff. It has a nice fragrance.

Sorry for a "raising from the dead" thread reply, but I just noticed that MB is now officially saying you can replace the fragrance with one of your own choosing. As far as I know, that's new and not well known. Sure beats a $100 refill.

The dealership charged me $100 for a new bottle of “sandalwood”.
Alas, no free refills.

That's the going rate, but, as I said, they now allow re-fills of your own fragrance. At least that should be cheaper and better fragrances.

For those of you that have refilled your own, how long does it last? I refilled mine and it seems to go through a bottle very quickly....almost too quick. I have my air freshener set at 2, which lasts quite a while with the Mercedes fragrances. I wonder what the original fragrances are made of, maybe alcohol based scents are not ideal?
