What kind of gas mileage are you guys seeing?

I just picked up my 2015 S550 2 weeks ago and have put about 600 miles on it.

Coming from a 2008 CL63 I was expecting my mileage to be quite noticeably better. That car got around 14 around town and about 21 at best on highway. Average over the years was 17.

Granted that a) mileage isn't THAT important to me and b) I know car is still in break-in period…I'm still surprised to be getting 11 around town and max of 22 on highway. (First tank avg was 12, mostly around town; 2nd tank avg 20, mostly highway).

I keep it in Eco mode 99% of the time.

Also, I'm a little disappointed to have 21.1 gal capacity instead of 23.8. While MPG isn't that important, I do really like having range.

Did you guys have numbers this low early on? At what point did it improve?

Thanks

I was initially disappointed in the mileage as you have stated with my '14 S550 4Matic. I typically have gotten 15 to 16.5 mpg in a combo of city/highway driving. My '08 S550 4Matic got better mileage in the combo driving. My '14 gets better mileage on longer trips however. I have averaged 25.5 to 26 mpg on longer trips such as 300 miles on a one way trips from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia using Distronic Plus. I have the Sport Package with 19" wheels.

I think there is a bigger disparity/range in my '14 S v. my '08 S in the driving styles. The "harder" I drive the '14 the worst the gas mileage is while the easier I am on the accelerator the better the gas mileage is. On my '08 the "harder" driving did not provide as much disparity in the worst to best mileage. Just one person's 2 cents.

I just got 15.3 mpg gallons in 95% city driving. I have 500 miles on my car. I keep a log of my mileage, and don't rely on the trip computer.

Did you use the ECO Start/Stop feature?

After 1500 miles of driving in my 2015 S550 4 matic, about 20% city and remainder highway, I have been getting about 20.6 miles per gallon.

Wow...I'm amazed at how you can get such a high number for the old NA AMG engine.

Converted from l/100km, I get pretty much 11-12 mpg in the city and when I'm lucky (but rarely) 13 on the S63 (and that's in eco and rarely going over 2000 rpm). I get around 19-20 mpg in the city for my Bluetec and 25-26 mpg on the highway.

I have stated this on other threads but I get much better gas mileage than what I see posted on this thread. On long highway trips I usually average between 28 and 31 mpg (depending on wind conditions) on my 2014 S550 4Matic. The biggest factor on highway mileage is the wind speed and direction. I already have about 6,700 miles on my car that was delivered to me on April 6. So, the AC has been on the great majority of the time. I'm not certain what the mpg will be in the real cold temperatures of the Midwest winter but I imagine it will suffer when the temperatures are less than 15 degrees. All cars suffer on gas mileage in severe cold. This is especially so for hybrids. My wife's RX450h gets pretty lousy gas mileage in severe cold but my LS460L was nowhere near as affected as hers in very cold weather.

As to why I am getting much better gas mileage than most of you, I can only speculate. Yes, I do drive on ECO mode, but I'm thinking that the standard 18 inch wheels that I have are better for gas mileage. I also try not to gun the accelerator. In the city, I typically average around 17-18 mpg. Btw, I was very careful not to drive aggressively or at the same speed for too long a period during the first 1000 miles and maybe that has helped with the gas mileage. On highway travel now, I usually drive at between 70 and 80 mph depending on the speed limit. I usually go about 5-8 mph above the speed limit.

Just arrived at beach 323mi trip with 1600 miles on the clock 24.5 mpg and the ride is unbelievable to say the least. The five an one half hour trip and not even tired. Wow!

My fuel consumption figures so far as in the attachment. The car is optimistic by about 0.4 l/100km.

6.1 litres/100 km should convert to some 38,5 miles per US gallon.

^and that is why I'm so disappointed they didn't bring the Bluetec S-Class back to North America.

Basically, I get 19.1-20.4 l/100km on the S63 and 9.4-12.5 l/100km on the ML320....so sad

Wanted to replace my bluetec w212 s350 diesel with another diesel but gave up and went for s550. After two years probably have hybrid or another diesel worked out for the next purchase.

I use the ECO Start/Stop feature all the time.

Do you all look at your efficiency rating or your trip mileage? I'm trying to figure the best route to get to work, so I consult mine. I think I do the best if I don't have to stop. I only have a 7 mile commute to work. One route has speed limits of 35 and 25 mph, but there are fewer stops.

The fewer the stops the better. The car uses quite a bit of gas when accelerating from a stop.

I don't think I have ever looked at the efficiency rating. I'll need to study it.

Any discussion of mileage has to include your tire size.

I have 20 inch tires. I get 16 mpg city and 24 highway.

Always in ECO and I rarely drive over 75 on highway.

As the original poster, I thought I'd update...

Car has 5000 mikes on it now. I regularly get 23-24 mpg on highway and just had a very long trip where it got 25.8.

I suppose she needed to get broken in...

Around Long Island and NYC I average 16.5-17.5 with an average speed under 30 (as stated in the DIC). I use Eco all the time and rarely use sport. Have not done much highway yet but I do see 25-26 when doing 75. My car has 1100 miles.

that thing is barely broken in E! I am not on the eco mode very often: this car has so much tq and hp it's nutty, and kind of sux in eco/grand dad mode
then again you have that AMG handy

Currently there are no W222 S350s being brought into the US. I believe the fellow commenting with the S350 is overseas and using Imperial gallons in his calculations.
