I finally broke down and ordered a new S550 sedan. First order of business once it arrives, will be to remove the run flat tires and replace them with conventionals. I got 18" wheels and am thinking Bridgestone Serenity tires, since I have had them before and they are silent & comfortable. Has anyone here made the switch from RFTs and if so, what brand/style did yo go with? My priorities are safety, comfort & a quiet ride. Thanks!

I'm sure you are right, but my feeling is that no matter how nice the car rides with RFT, it will ride even better on conventionals and ride quality is everything to me. I will probably never be far from a large metro area in this car, MB Roadside or AAA should always be available. However, just to make sure, I plan on having one of those electric pumps with the sealant can in my trunk, just in case. All that said, I will give the RFT a brief tryout to see what I think, but I have had them before and have always hated them.Originally Posted by DP2014
I would not recommend switching run flats if I have 18 inch wheels. Ride quality and quietness is almost perfect with the run flats. I thought the same when I ordered mine but ended keeping the run flats because they were pretty much perfect with an 18 inch wheel and also didn't want deal with the whole spare thing.
Go to tire rack ;
go to the tire survey page;
Pick the category you like, {Max performance, Grand Touring Summer, Grand Touring All Season,...}
Look at the columns: Ride comfort, Noise comfort
Choose any of the top 5 and you will be just fine.

I went with Michelin pilot a/s. If you don't need all seasons then I'd go for super sports or pilot 3's. I'm a big fan of Michelin, in my opinion they are the best...
