Forbes magazine-- Avoid BMW 7 series
BMW’s flagship sedan seems to have lost its edge in recent years. It’s wrapped in languid styling and just doesn’t feel as sporty as it did in earlier renditions; an odd product lineup includes an expensive and not especially efficient gas-electric hybrid model. Consumer Reports takes the 7 Series to task for being “a ponderous, technology-laden vehicle with ungainly handling,” and is included in the publication’s lists of lowest-scoring cars, worst overall values and most expensive operating costs in its class. Not to pile on, but it also gets a rock-bottom resale value rating from ALG and a below average performance score from J.D. Power.
BMW 7 series is the ONLY German car on the list of 15 new cars to avoid

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
A colleague had a 2012 7 series he finally lemoned ... Kept drinking a quart of oil every week to two weeks... And with no dipstick he said it was random when the low oil light would come on. Prior to the lemon, bmw basically kept buying him cases of oil to put in his trunk lol
This news is hardly surprising

Out of six, 12 cylinder BMW's I have bought new, BMW bought back FOUR of them as lemons. Not a good track record.

Here is the working version of the same write-up:

It is "impressive" how diverse the population is of the town of worst cars in 2014.

BMW, as of late, has focused its efforts not on its top tier of cars, but rather on its ever-growing portfolio of niche-segment vehicles for which, literally, no one’s been asking. The very opposite of what Mercedes has been doing. Until recently.

The next gen 7 will likely turn that around. The F01, albeit nice, and IMO still largely holds its own, just seemed put out without much care. Especially since a 5 Series makes it almost irrelevant, considering how close they are, and how they have identical chassis (same torsional rigidity figures, etc.).
I still personally think that the F01 (SWB) with M Sport Package, the right color and wheels, etc. is the nicest looking car in class.
The next gen better get an interior that separates it a bit more from even the future 5, and the extensive use of CF will put it in a league of its own in terms of chassis construction in this class (if applied properly and actually shows fundamental various performance benefits). The dual screen thing will be a gimmick that'll earn it "luxury tech" points, etc.
They need to dominate in the dynamics field again, especially as M-B is leaving it wide open for them by embracing its luxury virtues so much again. Cutting out weight, fat and ponderous excess is pivotal here.

I beg to differ. My W222 is amazingly sporty when pushed hard. It blows away my 2012 750il. When in comfort modes it glides and feels perfectly isolated from the world. Hit the suspension and tranny into sport and it immediately turns into a beast. I can't get over just how dynamically different the car becomes.

Fairly useless piece, like anything in infomercial media
Sure, Bent/BMW/Audi have overwhelmingly crap engineering/reliabillty...anyone semi-intelligent has known that for past 10+yrs
Sure, most S550s have junky Airmatics and dubious tires as std
100% of new S63s have buggy/lemony MCT as std
And suspect an alarmingly high % of new 65s are lemons b/c of various engine issues (though w/far safer, better gearbox than 63s of MCT era)...but laughable given AMG has had 10+yrs to debug/delemon the "old"-tech 65 motor...but still can't do it
Suspect any sophisticated consumer understands bug/lemon risks of any car or any other tech (or fashion) product and places bets based upon own risk/reward judgments
Reality is, much like iPhones, any repeat buyer of new stuff like 65s has <2yr use of product before getting a new copy, presumably higher-tech, more debugged....and under warrty and lemon laws so occasionally needs to lemon/flip the stuff whether a 65 or a 650....it is what it is whether a $250K car or a $75MM bird...

I have had several MB's with AirMatic and I feel that the system is one of "THE" shining achievements of the brand. I absolutely LOVE the AirMatic systems. As for the Run Flat Tires fitted as standard equipment on the new S Class, I agree that they are HORRID. My new S550, which is due to be here in about a week, will be DELIVERED with conventional tires and a compact spare, jack & tools in the trunk. All you need is a positive attitude, decent negotiation skills and an accommodating dealer.

Bad suspension on MB? Have plenty of friends who swear by their Airmatics. I have ABC (on my 3rd one with ABC) and love it. Bugs and Lemons here? I haven't heard of anyone complaining about it.
Have 2012 Audi A8L in household for 3 years - brought it in once for tire going flat. Some oil changes. Done.
Have 2014 BMW 7 series in household since June. No issues period.
Have 2014 S Class that has gone in for a cricket in the seat. Flat tires. And a sound coming from the front left that should be a quick fix.
Bugs and Lemons? I'm really perplexed.

Don't have the ESV anymore- have a GL. With 3 kids we have us up front and the 3 in the second row. Problem is D carpools 3-4 times a week with at least 1 other kid. I got rid of the ESV for that reason- the Platinum only came with buckets in the second row...

Now that I know about the carpool - I agree the RR doesn't make sense till 3rd row option is offered.
Cant imagine what 510 bhp is gonna be like. A real monster.
