Yes, it's softer and more supple, and the stitching pattern is different. It's a steep luxury, but YOLO.

It's "night & day", particularly when you see the mandatory "option" of the exclusive wood trim as part of the package. IMO this level of interior is finally more comparable to what Audi has been offering for years. You need to see it in person to really appreciate it.

In my '14 S550 4matic I have the nappa interior. With my physical feel of all the three interiors (standard, nappa, and exclusive nappa), it was clear there was a difference between the standard and the two nappa interiors. With that said, the standard leather is nicer then the standard leather in the w221. However, in my opinion, there was not a difference in the feel of the nappa and exclusive nappa seats. It is true that the stitching is nicer in the exclusive but I was told the exact same leather materials are used for the nappa and exclusive nappa. On my next S class I am considering either the semi-aniline or a custom interior like "Loving" did.

The difference between Nappa and Exclusive Nappa is that Exclusive has a unique seat stitching design and Nappa leather on the dash and door panels. The non exclusive Nappa has larger grain (and not as supple) leather on the dash and door panels. (Not sure if dash and door panels on the non Exclusive is actually leather or MB Tex)

Excellent. Middle level nappa should suffice. Now just need to find right car and color

Personally I love the exclusive nappa, mine happens to be the deep sea blue. I thought it was well worth the extra dollars, even though I had to take a rear seat upgrade that I didn't care for; and I'm a pretty frugal guy.

Vdub, the ex nappa is nice, and well worth it IMO, the quilted stitch really brings it up a notch

A few different grades of leather in the car to my understanding.
Standard seating has no stitching and is classified as "leather". $0
Upgraded seating #1 has horizontal stitching and is classified as "Nappa Leather" $2290
Upgraded seating #2 has diamond quilted stitching and is classified as "Exclusive Nappa" $4450

Then you have the Designo options.
Upgraded Seating #3 has diamond stitching called Designo Exclusive Nappa $550

Then you have the grand daddy of it all.
Upgraded seating #4 which has a different seat altogether and has what appears to be rivets covered in leather in the center of each quilt. $8600

Here are some pictures that show the difference between the designo exclusive nappa and the SERIOUS designo exclusive nappa. Two different seats. I imagine the tufted seats are much more comfortable and cushioned.

Also, both the standard leather and nappa leather have MB-Tex on the dash and doors. Exclusive nappa upgrades MB-Tex with the same nappa as on the seats on the door and dash. There is piping in between the seams on the dash and door panel.

Other differences...only #3 has door diamond "stitching" patterns. #3 and #4 have dash diamond patterns, but #4's is nicer, "3D" instead of flat. Only #4 has center console diamond stitching, again the nice 3D type.

I notice in your pics that the outboard rear seatbelts have contrasting edge stitching...a nice touch, but my 2015 deep sea blue (otherwise like the middle pic) definitely does not...all 3 of my rear belts are plain blue, like the middle belt in the pic. Maybe the pics are 2016, or 2014, and this was different for 2015?

I did screen caps from the Mercedes website. I just checked again, it doesn't specify the year, but one can assume 2015 for now.

DO you think they would make the "3D" (i like your term) leather with the rivets in the chocolate brown (if you paid an upcharge)?

They only offer it in that oatmeal color. Imagine how it would look in chocolate (or black) for that matter).

From what I understand from LovinMercedes, a custom interior is something like a $15k upcharge, though I wonder if that depends on what you want customized.

I asked my dealership a year ago about changing that leather to black and he said it was only available in that cream/oatmeal.

I also would want to sit in the seats to see if they offer more comfort. They look more tufted and padded.

Maybe call some dealers and see what they have on display. I think most dealers will have a Maybach S600 on the showroom floor at this point, and many of those will have that tufted type of design.

Friend of mine just took delivery a few weeks ago - and it had the "standard" exclusive leather. Was hoping to see. I'm going to go visit MB Manhattan next week. I'll have a look.

just to beat this dead horse, night and day difference between the exclusive nappa and the other two offrings. if you can afford it, go for the upgraded leather. everyone that sits in my car the last three months that i have owned it has commented on how luxurious this leather is. the look and feel of the cross stitched dashboard and doors is something to behold.
