What do you think my car is worth? Looking for opinions Trade-in VS Private Party Buyer.

Go on autotrader and search 2015 s class sedans to get an idea of msrp and what they are going for retail... They take a nice hit the first year... Similar but not quite as bad as amg Benz vehicles

The listed trade numbers would be close for a 2014 S not a '15. A '15 trade would be closer to $92k for a car in very good condition. This all depends on the area of the country of course.
I agree on the $92-$98k private party numbers but would say a good number would be $96k.

I bought the car 8 months ago and drove a little over 5000 miles on it. The car is not brand new and fully expected to take a hit. I did not pay full MSRP. Got about $5K off. Cost about $2600-$2700/Month to keep this car excluding gas/insurance.
With dealers discounting the S Class Sedan 12-15 Percent the dealer that paid me $104K is crazy.

Here is a similar MSRP '15 S550. Asking Price is under $100K Certified. The dealer that paid me $104K is going to lose money.

Just to update you guys the Mercedes dealer i sold the car to bought the car for $104K. They Listed it $116888 certified. Got a good offer on the car considering the rear bumper was painted and never matched properly.

Here in GA you would have gotten a 6% trade tax benefit of $6240. I'm curious if the Porsche dealer would have given 102 then you would have had a nice bump in value.

I am in a different state so maybe it wouldn't work, but I don't understand exactly...what were the mechanics of how you saved sales tax on the Porsche purchase, even though the used car went to a MB dealer?

The Porsche dealers "Wholesales" the Mercedes to the Porsche dealer. Porsche dealer buys the car from me and sells it to the MB dealer.

So, if I understand, you sell your MB to the Porsche dealer, and he sells to an MB dealer wholesale, so there is no sales tax to the MB dealer? You pay sales tax only on the excess of the Porsche cost over the $104k.
Too bad I didn't know about this maneuver on my last transaction, though my 2008 W221 was only worth $24.2k so the sales tax savings wouldn't have been as great. But I'll definitely give it a try next time, if I again get a bad offer from whatever dealer I'm buying a new MB from (my W221 went to a Nissan dealer, though another MB dealer was pretty close at $24k...the dealer I bought the W222 from said only $21k). Thanks!
