...it's a message I sometimes get on the screen instead of the normal surround and rear views. It happens maybe a few percent of the time when I startup and shift into reverse; later in the same drive, if I am going slow or stopped and manually engage surround view, I'll still get the message and no camera view. But after I park, then the next time that I start up again, it will typically be working normally.

Has anyone else run into this? I guess I'll take it in to the dealer, but since it happens rarely they are going to have a problem duplicating the issue.

i had this problem. and like you when i started the car again it worked.

I assume it is just a glitch.

when I go in at 10,000 miles I will ask.

Happened to me once so far.



I turned off the car, turned it back on and it still had the camera unavailable message. So I drive off at low speeds through the neighbourhood, and even when I tried it after a few hundred meters, it still had the error message. Again I drive off, then when I was stopped at the next stop light after a few minutes, I hit the 360 camera button on the left and it worked

That's the problem with all German cars, each and every single model of car has a different camera module & programming. So there's bound to be bugs. Unlike Toyota, one camera module, and only one way to activate the camera across their entire line up.

Sounds like MB has figured this out:

Complaint When reverse gear is engaged or when the 360° camera is activated manually via the function bar in the cockpit, the 360° camera system may show no image in the COMAND display.
The fault message "360° Camera System Unavailable" appears in the COMAND display.

Cause Software

Remedy Program 360° camera control unit (N148) with new software.
The new software is available with XENTRY DVD 03/2014 and add-on 3644 or with XENTRY DVD 05/2014 and add-on 3667

I'm wondering if this will work, since I have a 2015 car, build date Mar. 2015, and one would think the software fixes from XENTRY DVD 03/2014 and 05/2014 shouldn't be needed. But, certainly I'm going to schedule a service and see what they can do. Thanks.

Bulletin released 8/6/14 covering production date 7/13 to 2/14 nevertheless, since malfunction is intermittent mentioning bulletin and requesting shop foreman get involved should circumvent “no trouble found” and hopefully resolve the matter.
