2015 S550 4Matic
A Year with the 2015 S550
Just wanted to post an update on my 2015 S550. My vehicle has the following specs:
2015 Mercedes Benz S550 4Matic
Exterior Colour: Peridot Brown (very very very dark brown, so dark that its almost black)
Interior Colour: Black Nappa Leather
Interior Trim: Burr Walnut Trim
Packages: Premium Package, AMG Package, Driver Assistance Package, Rear Entertainment Package, Heads Up Display, Heated Front Windshield, Air Balance Package
I have used this car for a little more than a year. I have only 5000km (~3000 miles). It was delivered in September 2014. I have waited for this car for 6 months as S Classes were back ordered in Canada with very few available.
I was originally cross-shopping against the Maserati Quattroporte SQ4, Porsche Panamera 4s/GTS, Jaguar XJL, BMW 750. I am very very impressed that I have chosen the S550.
A problem I have encountered on the car was a non-functioning touch pad. This was easily remedied through a software update. Furthermore, I found that one side of the rear doors are slightly looser than the other. Hence it would sometimes not 'stay' in place if the car was on a little bit of a slope. Other than that, the car is running perfectly.
The thing I really like about the car is the smoothness and the luxury that the car entails. For the price of the S Class, it simply can't compare with the other cars that I have test drove. The Maserati's interior was a little cheap looking and had reminiscence of Chrysler parts/switches. The Porsche Panamera was very very nice, both interior quality and driving, but is more sporty than I like. The Jaguar XJ is a very elegant car, albeit a little behind the times. And the 750 was a very nice car to drive although it was dated (not sure about the new generation 750 but I am not a huge fan of the exterior and interior. I mean sure it looks okay and the tech seems a little ahead of the S550 now, but the look (both exterior and interior) would seem to date a lot easier than the S550.
Options that I really really enjoy on my S550 is the Adaptive Cruise Control, the Heads Up Display and the 360 Camera. The Adaptive Cruise Control is wonderful especially in traffic jams. I do not have to touch the gas pedal or even the steering wheel at all if in stop and go driving which is wonderful. The Heads Up Display wonderful as I do not have to look down on the speedometer to know how fast I am going or for directions of the navigation system. The 360 degree camera is also wonderful for maneuvering such a big car. I do not want to scrape the bumper on a curb nor do I want curb rash on the rims.
All in all, I am very very happy with the purchase of the S550. The only downside right now is the fact that it may facelift in a year or two

Thanks for posting the photos of that great car .
Don't let facelift version rain on your parade , it is gonna happen either or sooner . Alternatives ? You can always buy OEM parts and make your car look like an updated version .

great review, thanks for posting
I just purchased a '15 S550 with same options as yours, so it's nice to know you're happy with yours after a year

Thank you much for the review. However, my question to you is, why are you driving for only 3,000 miles per year if you love the car so much? Mine is a year and a half old now and I have driven it almost 24,000 miles. I absolutely enjoy driving this car, especially on long trips. This car is built to be driven.

Great review. I love mine and every day Is a learning experience. Many dealers know less than the owners, you have to learn it by reading posts.
I did learn this yesterday :
1. How to turn on my heated steering wheel
2. trick :
Press lock to lock your car
Then
Press and HOLD the unlock button. ( everything opens ( windows and roof )
To close up,
Press and HOLD the lock button again until they close fully or release fob to leave partially open.
You all probably know this ? I figured I would post anyway.
