I killed a tree today...printing half of the COMAND manual
I called and asked our dealer if they forgot to leave a hard copy version of the COMAND manual inside the new S550. Of course the answer was: "No. That manual (unlike the glove box version of the owners manual) is accessed only electronically via the car's display."
I like to flip through paper manuals when unfamiliar with new systems...a habit probably dating back to my old computer programmer days, when senior coders would tell me -- in response to any question I'd ask -- to "RTFM" (i.e. Read The F****** Manual).
So I located the online PDF of the COMAND manual, selected the 139 pages I wanted / needed of the total 298 pages, printed them (at 120% scale to fill up an 8.5"x11" page) and took them to Fedex Office for a $4.50 comb-binding job, including clear front cover and solid black rear. The result is exactly what I wanted:
Sorry, tree...

I also had one made from the dealer............they ordered one for me and it took several months! The shop foreman printed one out for me (LOL) too...........
seems completely retarded they are still not printing these and expecting people to sit in the car when they need to go over something from the manual......which is really annoying to have to do......

They lied to you or don't want to pay for it! It has a part number that must be ordered by the parts department. I believe there may be a charge that was not passed on to me. Printed manuals should be part of the vehicles equipment in case there is an electrical problem and you can't access it in the vehicle.

It seems many manufacturers are now skip shipping manuals with products and instead make available a PDF, perhaps with the expectation that it can be viewed on a tablet or the display of the product. It seems though if the interface is designed well enough, it should not need a manual as the interface elements and usage information can be displayed on the same screen. Still it seems they can ship a printed version of the manual or at least provide it if requested.
As for not shipping a jack and spare, too bad it is 2016 and someone has yet to develop a well performing and comfortable tire that can survive a pothole... The technology surely exist to do that by now.
Oddly Michelin has created such a tire but they are obsessed with specialty applications than refining it for use it cars. Almost as if they don't want to make a tougher car tire because they'd rather sell you more tires
